Hi guys. Today's song is Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.
So these guys were active from 2001 until 2013. A fact I didn't know is that the band actually was started because of 9/11. It was the bassist who chose the name, because he got beaned by a book with a it in the title. It was fate...that probably really hurt. Their debut album came out in 2002, and they released a couple songs for free download on MySpace, building their fan base. They were signed in 2003, toured with Avenged Sevenfold, then released their next album in 2004. The next year the opened for Green Day and did the Warped Tour. 2006 marked a lot of DVD's on the band with information about them about people around their lives. Then we got The Black Parade. They did a lot of performing under that as a pseudonym, adopting the personas from the video, much like Twenty One Pilots did with Blurry Face. It became one of the biggest things they'd ever done, and changed a lot of people's lives. They did a lot of touring with notable groups, released a DVD of some tour performances and then decided to take a break for a bit. They came back in 2009 with a single for a movie, and some more never released footage while they worked on the next album. It had a lot of hype said to be stripped down, full of hate, and more of a signifier of them than any previous work. It got released in 2010. The reviews favored it, saying they put what they learned with Black Parade in a tighter form. They toured that album through 2011, then built a studio in 2012 to start working on their next album. They released two songs every month ending early in 2013. And then they announced the break up. No real reason given, just done. All the members split of to do their own things, but then the band pages went active again in 2016 with the intro to this and nothing but a date. Everyone hoped it was a reunion, but it was just a re-release of their music. I can say I was among the fans absolutely pissed off and hurt by that. Like go ahead and reissue your stuff, but that ominous bullshit is for something truly spectacular, and all they accomplished was ruining everyone's day who used to be fans. It was just... rude. Despite that I do wish they were still together, so that's why you get them now.
This one required a song by a band we wished were still together. I ended up giving most people their groups with my suggestions because everyone came up blank. So we’ve got A Hard Day's Night by the Beatles from my grandma, then I Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher chosen by my mom. A great choice was Sammy’s with I Want You Back by NSYNC, then Will chose Sleep Now In The Fire by Rage Against The Machine. Rounding it off is Anna with Soon Enough by the Constantines.
Peace.
