Hey. So today's song is Mr. President by Pia Mia.
So Pia Mia is a triple threat career girl. She's a singer, songwriter, and model (and dance kind of judging by the video, but whatever.) She's also from Guam. I think she's the first singer I've featured from there so woohoo! She's younger than me which honestly isn't shocking, most new artists are, but despite still technically being in her teens she seems to have her shit together which is nice. We'll see if that lasts though. A lot of comments are saying someone should sing this to Obama, but what I really want is for someone to try and make him sing it through the clips. They managed to make him do the pokemon theme so anything is possible.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 37
What's Up. So today's song is Dangerous by Alyssa Reid.
Alyssa Reid is one of those artists that never comes to mind when I'm thinking of music I like, and yet every time I hear one of her songs I love it. It's truly a rare thing to enjoy all the songs by a particular artist. I am that way with a few different ones, and it looks like she's going to be added to that list. I've shown some other stuff by her before so you may be familiar with her already. Anyway check out the song and tell me what you think.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 36
Hey. So today's song is Worth It by Fifth Harmony featuring Kid Ink.
Okay, we need to have a conversation about this one. I... there are no words for this video. There is a fine line between empowerment for women and just acting like a Harlot. I use that word because it seems less offensive than the one I want to use. These girls are young and according to the women older than them in the industry this is empowerment. Now it may be for some people, but definitely not for me. Dressing in revealing clothes and rubbing your hands all over yourself is not the way to make people respect you because "you're worth it." It makes me very sad that these girls didn't even (most of them) make it to their twenties before hitting this point. Comparing the beginning of their career to now is... shocking to say the least. And now this song has become my sister's anthem. No words. I doubt I'll ever find some.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 35
Hey guys. So today's song is Baby Boy by Beyonce featuring Sean Paul.
Yes this is a singer that's already been used once in a short time, but it's technically two different artists. I imagine that this song was brought out shortly after Destiny's Child split up, but don't take my word for it. This is such a sexual song and yet it's another from my childhood. Everyone is so hypocritical about songs nowadays being too sexualized for children and yet that's how it's always been. I guess we are all just unaware of it as kids.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 34
Hello, today's song is Watch Me by Silento.
Yes, I'm jumping on the band wagon. It's ridiculous, it's definitely a one hit wonder and yet it has taken over the world. On a side note I showed my sister and mom a video with a Christmas spin on a bunch of songs, this one included. When it got to this one, my sister gave me the unimpressed face, and my mom was just confused because apparently she is one of the five people in the world who haven't heard of this song. I don't know what the fascination is with songs like these, but this is the first one (I think) since the superman dance a few years ago.. and by a few years I mean like ten. Whatever, this song is here and been checked off the list, I make no excuses or apologies. Deal with it.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 33
What's Up. Today's song is Lean On by Major Lazer and DJ Snake.
It's nice that this video had the lyrics in it because I honestly had no idea what was being said. It's possible to guess on some of it, but the blow a kiss part was something I never heard until I really tried to. I miss when you used to get those sleeves when you bought a CD that had all the lyrics in it. Not every artist did it and now that CD's are basically obsolete we never get them. I'm usually very good at picking up lyrics, but some songs require a little extra help. This being one of them. This song is pretty popular and I know I haven't featured the artist before so enjoy something relatively new.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 32
Hi everyone. So today's song is Mi Mi Mi by Serebro.
I got this song from the Jem movie which is going to be a large conversation later on an original song from the movie I feature. I can't deal with the Jem people yet. Let's just focus on this song. It's one that you would think I would find annoying too, but I don't. I actually really like it and have spent days singing in. It's so simple and catchy, so I wanted to share it with you guys. Also this video is a lyric video so in case you want to know what they actually say it's there. It will help you learn the song faster or add to the annoyance if this isn't your style. We'll see what prevails.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 31
Morning! Today I give you Albatraoz by AronChupa and Nora Ekberg.
This song has been an annoyance to me for months. I get so irritated hearing it and then it refuses to leave my brain and plays on a loop in my head. I'm finally at the point now where it has stopped being played on the radio and I can choose where it assaults me (excepts for the one car commercial because that plays every five minutes during the news hour) so I'm dealing with it a bit better. Regardless of my feeling currently this song has had a massive impact on me and my internal playlist so it deserves to be highlighted. Sorry in advance if it gets in your head too.

Year 4, Day 30
Hello. Today's song is Basic by Pusher.
This is another song that was inspired by a different video, and let me tell you it was hard to find out the artist, despite their being only one word in this song. It took me a couple days compared to five minutes for others. So the video I got it from here is a dancer on Ellen getting to live out one of her dreams of dancing with Twitch. He is an incredible dude and is seriously the best dance partner ever. This video is freestyle, all her sis was pay attention to her and match her style. This is something he did in SYTYCD all the time too with different types of dancers, so color me impressed. I hope you with be too.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 29
Hi. So today's song is 2 Legit 2 Quit by MC Hammer.
So in all honestly this song is only on here because of my love of Anthony Mackie and his amazing rendition of it on Lip Sync Battle. You also get a bonus song in that video there so enjoy it. I've probably mentioned it before, but when I was in school I happened upon a movie about the life of MC Hammer and actually really enjoyed watching it, so now he feels less like the thing that my mom listened to (and had hammer pants to help embody it) but more of something that I can enjoy. It feels more like my own music rather than absorbing a piece of a parent. There isn't anything wrong with the influence of somebody else, but it's just nice to know that I would have chosen in on my own too. Anyway hope you enjoy both videos.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 28
Heyyy. So today I give you Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio.
The ultimate song of the rap genre by far, so obviously it makes the cut. I'm honestly shocked I haven't already used it yet. Maybe I have and I just fucked up and forgot...whatever I'll fix it later if I did. For now I'm not too worried about it since this song is amazing. I don't think I've ever met a person who can't sing at least one part of this. There was even a version of this used as a prank in an exam which was brilliant. I'll put the link for that here so you can check that out. It's pretty awesome in itself.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 27
Hiya. So today's song is The Rain by Missy Elliot.
If I'm going to talk about exceptions to the rap genre, you know Missy Elliot will make the list. I may be a very (for lack of a better word) prep person when it comes to my music tastes, I will always love Missy Elliot. She was a queen before that even became a saying. Although this isn't my absolute favorite song, I've already showed you the other ones I love so this is what you get today.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 26
Hey. So today's song is Party Up by DMX.
So I actually got all the songs I wanted to use together and tried to organize them in a way that made sense instead of making it seem like I had a split personality when listening continuously. That means that I'm getting the rap stuff out of the way at once. I'm not a real fan of this genre of music, but every rule has exceptions so you get to see what mine are over the next few days. Starting yesterday technically, but let's pretend we're staring today, okay? Enjoy!
Peace.

Year 4, Day 25
Morning! Today's song is Gasolina by Daddy Yankee ft. Pit Bull and Lil Jon.
Why do people want to work with Lil Jon, I don't get it! The one YouTube comment sums it up perfectly "The only reason I listen to this song is because it has nostalgic value to me, everything else is moot." This song does have nostalgic value for me, mostly just the chorus of it and I kind of hate the rest. So I totally understand if you guys skip this song altogether because what is nostalgic for me might not be for you. But hey if you like older rap then go ahead and jam.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 24
Hello. So today's song is Thong Song by Sisqo.
My whole life will be spent laughing about the fact that this song exists. I mean why? What reason do we need a song about thongs. I don't get it, but I will sing along to this song always. I have a soft spot for Sisqo because of the movie he was in and how adorable he was in it. It was called Get Over It. I discovered it one time in the middle of the night and with absolutely no context about how ridiculous it was...I thought I had been drugged. I love it though, it's great. If you've never seen it you should definitely watch it, although I warn you now that Berke has zero facial expressions and is probably the worst acting in existence. Keep that in mind if you watch it.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 23
Hi. So today's song is Let's Get It Started by The Black Eyed Peas.
You knew it would happen at some point if I'm doing old hits, so let's get it over with. I'll be honest with you, I know this song so gad damn well, but not because I actively listened to it. It is because I was a super loner and this was the opening (read only) track in a video game I used to play. Used to because SOMEONE stole it which pisses me off to this day. It was an urban sims game and the whole song would play at the beginning when you put the disc in while people moved into apartments in the city and then went to a giant dance party...because that's how life works. Actually that kind of is how life works in sim games, nothing makes sense. If you've never played a sim game at least look up people playing them because some of the things that can happen are simply hilarious.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 22
Hello. So today I give you Hot In Herre by Nelly.
So there was a post I saw on Tumblr which pretty much sums up my feelings on how this song has embedded it's way into my life. The post basically is someone saying it's getting hot in here to which the immediate thought is so take off all your clothes, and then thinking what? Why? What year is it!? This still happens to me all the time and I don't know how to stop it. There probably isn't a way so it's something I'll just have to live with, and now so will you.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 21
Hey. So today's song is Yeah! by Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris.
Now this song really screams my childhood. This was played at literally every school dance or party type thing I went to and guaranteed the whole room would start club dancing. Before he was a judge on The Voice, Usher ruined our lives with this song. I still want to dance to it now! I still know the words! My love for Ludacris (thanks to Fast and the Furious) will offset my distaste for Lil Jon. I try not to have artists that I truly hate on here, but sometimes the people featured can be ignored. Focusing on Usher and doing some dancing makes me a happy girl.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 20
Hi. So today's song is Right Thurr by Chingy.
This is another one from that BuzzFeed list that I forgot I knew. It just makes me giggle, I mean... imagine a 10 year old me singing along to this. I never knew what it meant, I still don't honestly, but something about the song seemed so fun to jam to. Make no mistake this was definitely played at my school and everyone was sure it made them ghetto and awesome. It just goes to show that all generations of children are morons. The song is a good laugh though so enjoy.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 19
Heya. So today's song is Hit 'Em Up Style by Blu Cantrell.
I totally forgot about this song!! Oh my gosh it's been years. This one is thanks to a BuzzFeed article about songs from 2003. I figured I'd check it out because there's still some room on this year's list and boom: there it was. I totally use to sing this song and it made me feel cool which is absolutely ridiculous to think about now. This did not make anyone cool and I'm sure it made me look even nerdier. Anyway, this is a true throwback that I haven't heard in a long time, so hopefully it'll give someone else a little smile.

Year 4, Day 18
Hi. So today's song is SOS by Rihanna.
Yup, some old school Rihanna today. Why? Why not. This was in the era before singer's decided being absolutely bat shit crazy was the way to go. I'm talking about the crazy hair colors, outfits and videos. Ten years ago when this song was released, that stuff was just starting. Katy Perry coined it, but if memory serves, Rihanna did get sucked in a bit with bright red hair. It works for some people like my friend Apple, whose hair was flawless red, but I didn't really dig it on Rihanna. Oh well, my personal opinions don't matter. So anyway, enjoy this oldie song.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 17
Hey Guys. So today's song is Survivor by Destiny's Child.
It has become a big thing to see comeback acts since, let's face it, we all are on a nostalgia kick. I mean Beyonce bringing these guys together at the Superbowl, Justin Timberlake bringing back N*Sync for a show, and now the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys going on tour. I kind of love it, my childhood is coming back to life. If you try and tell me you weren't a fan of at least one Destiny's Child song, you are a liar. Beyonce has always been a beast in the musical sense, and this song kind of feels like an anthem about her music career. When Destiny's Child broke up, she truly did survive on her own and is still killing it. So this is an ode to her and all the others who still are doing what they love.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 16
Hey. Today I give you Rich Girl by Gwen Stefani ft Eve.
This complete the trifecta of blonde female singers I listened to when I was younger. Might as well get them all out at once: first Christina, then Britney and now Gwen. It's kind of interesting that all three of them are still around now, still being mentioned. I honestly wouldn't have predicted that, I figured they would also go the way of boy bands. I can't even tell you how many times I have sung along to this song in my life. I even do the whiny voice. I like the pirate theme in the video, although it makes zero sense to me. I've never watched the video all the way through. Maybe I'll go watch now.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 15
Hi. So today's song is Stronger by Britney Spears.
Oooh how shocking, there's some Britney Spears in the oldies section. This is actually my favorite song by her, perhaps because it was my favorite to do in the game we had on play station (think DDR for fingers with only Britney songs.) The concept for the video is ridiculous, but the song is good. You've probably already heard it, but on the off chance you haven't the link is there.

Year 4, Day 14
Hello. So today's song is Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera.
After yesterday I wanted to go back to the songs I actually like. This is an old one (as you can tell) but I've had it stuck in my head lately. Because my head is about 80% song lyrics I usually wake up with a random song already playing, and it's usually one I haven't heard in years. According to research the only way to truly get a song unstuck from your brain is to listen to it all the way to the end, so I'm testing that theory today.
Peace.

Morning! So today's song is Bitch I'm Madonna by Madonna ft. Nicki Minaj.
Okay I'd never put this song on here, but the parody version made it worth it. To really enjoy the parody you must first watch the original, so get that over with and then check it out. Literally everything I could say is in it. I mean Madonna used to be really good, but there is a point when you should retire...or at least not act how she is in the video. You can either thank or blame Sammy for this one because she decided to show me some music she likes. We had been discussing my blog so she showed me this and some Simple Plan which will be coming up eventually. For now you get this shit haha. Sorry.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 12
What's up. Today's song is Gee by Girls Generation.
Let's just get a wave of the weird out of the way. Everyone went through a weird K-pop phase right? Right!?!? Please tell me I'm not the only one because I loved this shit at one point and now it's slightly embarrassing to think about. I've learned to embrace the weird musical choices I've made over the years and just stop thinking about what other people think of it. I wish I could show you guys the dance video that goes with this song. It was legit just the dancers on a sound stage performing a dance to this song, no bells or whistles and it was great! It got taken down a long time ago though. Oh well, you can see some parts of it in this video so that will have to do.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 11
Hi. Today's song is Put Your Hands Up In The Air by DJ Tonka.
Kind of fitting that this one is on a Friday. I know this song is super lame, it makes me feel lame to listen to it but I also get a nostalgia kick from it. Because before we were old enough to actually party, we would fake party at school dances and this is the kind of thing they played. We all thought it was so cool back then... oh how times have changed. Still, when I need a smile I can usually get one from this.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 10
Hey. So today's song is Jenny From The Block by Jennifer Lopez.
I told you guys that this year would have a bunch of old stuff. Before I even knew the meaning of this song I was singing along to it, it was probably cringe-worthy for my parents... I know it's cringe-worthy for me thinking about it now. Not so much because the meaning of the song is bad, it's probably one of the least dirty songs I was exposed to, but just the thought of a tiny child singing those words. J Lo is still making music, still kicking ass at life, but I'll always prefer the older stuff. So on the off chance that you guys haven't heard this it's the song for today. Hope you like it.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 9
Hi. So today's song is Gold Digger by Kanye West ft. Jamie Foxx.
I hate Kanye West. He is one of those famous people that I absolutely loathe for being so stupid, but regardless I am incapable of not singing this song every time I hear it. It's one of those songs that is so ingrained in my past that the joy will never die. Favorite memory attached to this is when Anna and Rebecca (her sister) legit did the entire rap in perfect time while the three of us were in the car. As the person who normally knows all the words to every song, it was a nice surprise to not be the one doing it. And I got to see a sister bond kind of like the one I have with mine... although that's only when we don't want to kill each other. If there is a special memory any of you have for this I would love to hear it!
Peace.

Year 4, Day 8
Hello! So today's song is Rehab by Amy Winehouse.
Okay I have something completely unrelated to this song to say. I'm sorry, you probably don't care but I am freaking excited. So some of you may know that I used to be in choir. When I was in choir, I was the only one who ever recorded our stuff and I took those recording to put on YouTube. Some were from high school, some from Westwinds but I also had a few from a concert I did with the Mount Royal Youth Choir (which I wasn't a member of.) They needed a few voices to fill their ranks for a concert so we had two rehearsals to learn these songs. It meant the pieces were kind of ruined at the concert because the piano player accompanied us to make sure we didn't fuck up...on a cappella songs. Well apparently three years ago (I only noticed now) a Canadian composer (I'm not gunna name names) who is incredible watched one of those awful renditions we did and complimented us, saying that we were good enough to not need the piano. It may not seem like much, but let's be honest: I'm a huge music dork who doesn't get compliments often and he basically just validated five years of my life. So I'm feeling pretty good right now. Anyway I needed to gush to someone, at least you got a song out of it.
Peace.
