Happy Leap Day! Today's song is Here by Alessia Cara.
This is exciting, I don't think we've ever had a leap year on here...I mean we probably did but I'm not going through my thousand posts just to check. I actually had forgot about the leap year which was horrible because I made a calendar for my great grandma from scratch, got the whole thing done, then realized. So I had to redo most of it and it took a bit longer than expected. Lesson learned though: always have a calendar handy if you're making a customized one. Anyway onto the song. Here we have another Canadian artist who started out making videos for YouTube. She officially came on the scene last year with the release of her first album. This song was her debut single so it's the most well known, but if you like it you should check out her other stuff.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 6
Hey. So today's song is 3 Foot Tall by Classified.
This song really speaks to me, especially the last year I've had off. I've been struggling and music is my anchor, so the chorus is an emotional tie for me. When I struggle though, I do it alone so my family usually has no idea what's going on and even freaks out at me for not acting how I normally do. It's a very unhealthy thing to do, so I can say from experience that if you're dealing with something (anything) pick even just one person and talk to them about it. It'll help in the long run.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 5
Morning. Today's song is Can't Feel My Face by The Weeknd.
Okay today's song is another super popular one. I'm warning you now that this year will mostly be popular hits and retro stuff because that's just how I'm feeling this time around. It'll be remedied by next year being back to the roots and having all new artists to check out, but for now embrace the top 40/90's music groove. I feel like everyone likes The Weeknd. I've never encountered someone who absolutely abhors him like they do with Bieber and other singers. I appreciate artists who are mellow in the drama and the music is really good to jam to, so have fun with it.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 4
Hi. So today I give you Pity Party by Melanie Martinez.
We need to talk about this okay, because I actually really like this song. It's pretty damn catchy but tell your tween fans that you used a soundbite! They all love that part and assume it is just from this song: it was a soundbite from It's My Party and... I cannot explain to you guys how heartbreaking it is for me that all the comments on this classic song are mentioning the new one. She reuses the main part of the song and doesn't explain it, basically erasing the original artist from these people. They will never know the artistry of Lesley Gore. I know it shouldn't matter. I should be happy that new artists are incorporating old music into their stuff to prove music hasn't changed so much, and I would be happy if it was plainly clear where she got the chorus from. If you've been an avid viewer of this blog then you guys already know I have an issue with the use of soundbites so I'll shut up now, but if you ever have kids please show them classic songs. Don't let them fade out.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 3
Hello. So today's song is Haunting by Halsey.
Here’s a new artist for you and actually another one that got her start on YouTube itself. It certainly has become the place for creators to be discovered. I guess technically Halsey was discovered through soundcloud by the record companies, but semantics. She really hit her stride last year by making a splash at the South by Southwest music festival and then touring with some well-known bands. This is a song off her album which has been dubbed an angry female record by the singer herself. I don’t disagree with that statement. I really enjoy the song and I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve, so we’ll keep an eye out.

Year 4, Day 2
Heya. So today's song is Younger Days by Adaline.
You guys may remember that I ended the first year (I think) with an Adaline song. Ever since discovering her music I’ve always liked it. There’s something beautifully haunting about her voice and the music usually follows that, like it does in this song. I’m slightly bummed because somehow I’ve lost the CD of hers I had in one of my moves. What makes it worst is the songs from that CD aren’t on YouTube anywhere. The only exception was the song from year one. It’s incredible the way you find musicians you like, because that CD came from a girl who my sister was friends with, but they absolutely hate each other now. Still, whenever I listen to something by Adaline I will always think about Amber. If you have that with an artist and someone you used to know I’d love to hear about it, if only to prove that I am not going mental.
Peace.

Year 4, Day 1
Hi guys, long time no see. Almost a year actually...damn. Well I'd like to say that I've done great things with that year but I'm literally exactly where I was when I left. It's been long enough though so let's kick off the year. Here's Hello by Adele.
I’m sure you all are SUPER surprised that this song is on the list. I’ll be honest, I wanted to hate it, but god damn Adele with her fantastic music on the airways. It may be kind of overplayed right now, but since I’m starting this year anew I thought I might as well use the song titled after a greeting and get it out of the way! Here's another rendition of the song if you want something a little different. One thing I appreciate about her albums is that it’s easy to figure out the order since they are all numbered. It’s kind of cool that she is titling them for the age she was when it was released, kind of like her own musical scrapbook. Anyway you probably all know who she is so I won’t bother explaining about the artist. Also a little side note: as a person Adele just seems genuinely cool and up for anything as we saw with her entering an Adele impersonator competition and her carpool with James Corden, so if you're up for a laugh check those out. This actually isn’t the only song called Hello released this year, so if you are tired of Adele already, here is Hedley’s song which is also pretty fantastic. I debated which one I wanted to use, but since this is my blog I decided screw it, why choose? For those who aren’t already aware I’m very fond of Hedley (I like all their songs) so when it doubt I usually end up listening to their stuff. Anyway enjoy!
Peace.
