Year 8, Day 123

Hey guys. Today's song is Thunder by Gabry Ponte, LUM!X, and Prezioso.

 Alright there are three of these guys, so only brief overview for them today to keep it short. Gabriele "Gabry" Ponte is an Italian DJ active since 1993 who has eleven albums and four EPs under his belt, not to mention the crazy amount of singles including this one. LUM!X is Luca Michlmayr is an Austrian DJ but is based in Italy and is best known for the work he's done with Gabry Ponte. LUM!X is a baby in the career compared to Gabry, as Luca is only 20, but he has great potential. And this year he represented Austria at Eurovision, which is awesome. Prezioso is one of the stage names for Giorgio Prezioso, an Italian DJ and member of the dance troupe Prezioso & Marvin which consists of Giorgio and his brother Andrea Prezioso alongside Alessandro Moschini. Georgio has actually done a lot of collaborating with other groups and artists over his career which started in 1987. This song specifically was released in 2021, and since I found it has kind of become my personal obsession. So hopefully you like it as much as I do.

Hey guys. Today's song is This Hell by Rina Sawayama.

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese British artist active since 2013 as a solo artist, although technically she was in a hip hop group before that while she was in school. She started off with some singles while using the stage name Riina. She started doing music videos in 2015, then released her debut EP in 2017 independently. She did some more singles in 2018 including one about her sexual identity. She was a supporting act on Chalie XCX's tour in 2019 before getting signed in 2020 and releasing her debut album which went huge but was snubbed from being included in the BRIT Awards since she doesn't have citizenship (rather she has an indefinite leave to remain visa which I have never heard of until now). In 2021 she re-released one of her songs with Elton John, who was a big supporter in getting the British Phonographic Industry to change their policy after her BRIT Award issue. She started touring in 2021 before releasing her next album this year. I'll be honest, even though this song works best out of the ones I have saved to go in this spot today, I didn't want to put it up yet. And that's because I love it so much that I wanted to keep it on my list and listen to it every time I field through my saved stuff, but that's just greedy of me, so I'm showing it to you today. It definitely classifies as an anthem and is so damn good, and is actually probably the first representation of a polyamorous relationship I've seen in a music video. As you guys know my personal orientation is about as basic as it can be, but I've always campaigned for people's personal preferences (so long as it is consensual and doesn't hurt anyone) to be only the business of the people in that relationship so I think this representation is great and the song is a definite bop. Hey guys. Today's song is Thought About That by Noa Kirel.

So Noa Kirel is an Israeli singer, and is actually on deck to represent Israel at next year's Eurovision contest. She has been doing music for awhile, and was featured with her father in a documentary about parents who push their children to success, this was because her father was financially supporting her music career. In 2015 she started posting music on YouTube, and actually caused a stir about the "provocativeness" of some of it considering her age. Her songs were also featured on the Israeli radio stations and by 2016 she was awarded a Singer of the Year award from the Children's Elected Ceremony. In 2017 she hosted a musical program on TV, starred in a movie, and was in a theatre production before getting featured in the Internal Artist category for the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2018 she was in another TV, was a judge for Israel's Got Talent, and did a theatre production (and making of movie) for the TV series. She signed with an American label in 2020, and then while completing her mandatory two year military service as part of the military band, in 2021 she was in another movie and collaborated on a single that became known as a gay anthem in Israel. She released a couple more singles during her service, then when it ended in 2022 was when she officially agreed to represent the country at Eurovision. So I guess we can all look forward to that.

Hey guys. Today's song is Could've Just Left Me Alone by Alexa Cappelli.

Alexa Cappelli is an singer from California, whose been active since 2018 when she was a contestant on the Voice, making in up to the Live Playoffs before being eliminated. She's been singing since she was a kid, and would perform in productions put on in her church before attending a performing arts high school where she studied commercial music and started writing her own songs. She started off with three singles that mixed pop and indie, then released some more songs that got popular on TikTok, and lately has done some work as a session singer for Epidemic Sound. Despite some big things under her belt she is still considered a relatively new artist so I hope you check her out.

Hey guys. Today's song is Black Hole by Griff.

Griff is Sarah Griffiths, an English musician active since 2019. She started to get into music after listening to a Taylor Swift album, and started recording and producing music on the computer, using YouTube tutorials to hone her craft. She kept her passion quiet through school and said she was taking a gap year rather than disclosing her music career. She also chose to go with a stage name since as she said Sarah Griffiths sounds like she'd have "a mortgage and 4 kids, it's very corporate." She was signed in 2019 and releasing a number of singles, followed by an EP the same year. In 2020 she released some more singles, and did some work with other artists, before winning the Brit Award for Rising Star in 2021. She was supposed to do some touring later that year, but for obvious reasons those dates got pushed to this year instead. I did feature her earlier in a song she did with Sigrid, but she is a great artist and deserved a solo spotlight. So enjoy.

Hey guys. Today's song is Angry Woman by Ashe.

Ashe is Ashlyn Wilson whose been active since 2017. She started out singing a demo in Nashville, eventually getting signed to a label called Mom+Pop. The 'e' on her moniker was added to pay homage to Carole King, whose 'e' is also not in her given name. She's written a couple songs for other artists, including Demi Lovato, and has been the featured singer on a number of tracks. The one she collaborated on with Shaun Frank earned her a Juno nomination in 2017. She did some touring with other artists before releasing her debut EP in 2018. She released two more EPs in 2019 which were titled as a two-parter. Her debut album came out in 2021, followed closely by another in 2022.You should know all this by now because I've featured her a lot before so today you just get to enjoy some more Ashe.

Hey guys. Today's song is Fat Funny Friend by Maddie Zahm.

I don't have any official bio so bear with me. So Maddie Zahm is an American singer that has been active since at least 2018 when she competed on American Idol, and made it into the Showcase Round before getting eliminated. Her YouTube channel has been active though since 2014. She has an EP that was released this year and, according to her YouTube, it details all the changes that have happened in her life recently, including leaving the church, coming out, moving, etc. This song is probably her most well known song as it's gone viral. It's not surprising because it's damn relatable... at least to me, but I'll let you guys be the judge.

Hey guys. Today's song is Moon And Back by Alice Kristiansen.

So Alice Kristiansen started out on YouTube, running her channel since 2010 although she only started posting in 2011. She started with doing covers which earned her a lot of popularity. According to Deezer (because I don't have an official bio) she has three EPs, the first from 2018 followed by another in 2019 and a new one this year. She also has an album listed from 2014. This song specifically is from 2016 and is the first from her I've heard, but definitely makes me want to check out more. Hopefully you feel the same way.

Hey guys. Today's song is Do All My Friends Hate Me? by McKenna Grace.

So I actually have a bio to read through today which makes this easier. McKenna Grace is an actress and singer, and seems better known currently for her acting. She started acting in 2013 with roles in some TV shows, including the Young and the Restless (which I know well because my grandma used to watch that) and a couple movie credits starting in 2016. She's probably best known though from her role in 2017 in Gifted opposite Chris Evans, and her role in the new Ghostbusters movie from 2021. Her music career technically started in 2020 when she got signed, but her first songs started coming out in 2021. Fun Fact: her first song Haunted House was actually added to the Ghostbuster soundtrack and used in the credits on the movie. This is her second song, released this year along with some others if you want to go listen to those. And check out Gifted. I think it's the only movie I've seen her in, but it is a fantastic film, so give it a go.

Hey guys. Today's song is WYD Now? by Sadie Jean.

Welcome to a basically brand new artist. This song is actually her very first song, released in 2021 and she has had other ones since then, but since this is the first one I found and her debut I thought it was a good one to start with. And because she's new I don't really know anything about her yet, so I guess we'll both have to learn as her career progresses. Hopefully though if you like the song you'll keep an eye out for the rest of her stuff.

Hey guys. Today's song is See You Later (Ten Years) by Jenna Raine.

So Jenna Raine has no official bio and even on her website, Facebook, Twitter etc there is no information that I can find to give you an overview. Her YouTube has been active since 2015 and started out with covers of songs with what looks like an EP in 2019. She's had other songs since then and has been posting lots of shorts if you want to see what she's like, but for now that's all I got. But I hope you enjoy the song.

Year 8, Day 112

Hey guys. Today's song is Fear That Closes The Heart by Partner.

Partner is a Canadian band active since 2014 and founded by Josée Caron and Lucy Niles. They met in college and played together in a couple different bands before forming this group along with Daniel Legere, Kevin Brasier, and Brendan Allison. They got popular in 2015 for their Ellen Page video, when they used footage of Page dancing in their video and then Page shared it on social media. They signed with a Canadian label and released a cassette in 2016 then did some touring. They released an album in 2017 which was nominated for an East Coast Music Award and a 2018 Polaris Music Prize. They released an EP in 2019, followed by their album in 2020. I don't know of anything since then, but that's not that uncommon so I'm sure we'll see more soon. For now, enjoy this.

Hey guys. Today's song is Paper Crown by Alec Benjamin.

Alec Benjamin is an American singer active since 2013. He actually started out signed, but after submitting his album the label broke the partnership. He didn't let it deter him though, so he went on a tour through Europe, sometimes playing in parking lots outside of concerts and handing out his business cards. In 2017 his music was used in America's Got Talent and in 2019 his mixtape made it on the Billboard 200. Fun Fact: one of the songs from that was redone and released by Alessia Cara. He got signed again in 2018 to Atlantic Records, then his debut album was released in 2020. As of 2021 he's with a different label and I'm sure there will be more music on the way. Keep an eye out.

Hey guys. Today's song is Dancing With Strangers by Jeremy Shada.

Jeremy Shada is an actor and musician, active since 2004. He actually has a bunch of acting credits, a lot of it voice work, so he was kept pretty busy through childhood and got home schooled around his work stuff. He graduated in 2013, and that is also when his discography begins. The beginning is from soundtracks for shows he was part of, as he did some singing/rapping work on those, then in 2014 he and his brother Zack combined their music projects into a band called Make Out Monday. They've played a lot at conventions and have actually been associated with some pretty big names, but are purposefully enjoying their time as an unsigned group. They released an EP in 2014 and an album in 2018, and also have some singles still coming out with at least one from this year. As for Jeremy's solo stuff, he released some singles starting in 2020 and his first solo EP in 2021 so hopefully you'll check that out and give it some love.

Hey guys. Today's song is Hymn For The Weekend by Coldplay featuring Beyonce.

These are both well known and I've featured both before, so this is going to be a really quick overview. So Coldplay is a British band active since 1996 and made up of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and Phil Harvey. They've released nine albums over the course of their career with the most recent from 2021. Beyonce has been around since 2005, first with Destiny's Child before then going solo. She's released seven solo albums with the most recent from this year, one album with Jay Z, and five albums with Destiny's Child. They're both powerhouse artists in different ways, but Coldplay is pictured because this is their song, in fact Beyonce isn't even included in the title on YouTube, but I know that voice. Anyway I hope you like it.

Hey guys. Today's song is I'm In Love With You by The 1975.

This is an English band active since 2002 and made up of Matt Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel. They played together in high school, and after when a local council worker started booking gigs for teens they regrouped and started playing together from then on. Originally Elliot Williams was the singer, but left so Healy switched to singing from drums and Daniel came in as the new drummer. They had a lot of different names before settling on The 1975 because of the "mental" scribbling on the back of On The Road by Jack Kerouac, dated "1 June, The 1975." The band released four EPs within 2012 and 2013 and toured to build up hype for their debut album, released in 2013. Since then they're released four more albums, one in 2016, 2018, 2020, and with the most recent out this year. Their sound has changed as they've gone thorough their careers, which isn't a surprise I mean we all have changed over the last twenty years, so why shouldn't they. This song is from the newest album, and I absolutely love it so it's a good show of what they are as a band right now, but I do recommend checking out their earlier discography to see the difference.

Hey guys. Today's song is Make You Mine (Put Your Hand In Mine) by PUBLIC.

So this band is made up of Ben Lapps, John Vaughn, and Matthew Carter Alvarado. They've been around since 2012 which is when they released their first EP. They met each other in high school in jazz band They've been on tour with a lot of great bands and released another EP in 2018 before signing in 2019. This song came out in 2015, though it started to get big in 2019 after an appearance on TikTok. It also seems like they've recently released another EP recently so go check that out if you're interested.

Hey guys. Today's song is Missing Piece by Vance Joy.

Vance joy is James Keogh, and Australian singer active singer 2013. He was actually an Australian Rules football player first, but even though he was really good decided instead to pursue music because his heart wasn't really into the sport. He released his debut EP is 2013, which did great, before releasing his album in 2014. A deluxe edition of the album was released the following year. He did a lot of touring and performance before winning the Best Male Artist ARIA award in 2015. His next album came out in 2018, after releasing some of the songs as singles throughout 2017. He also released a live album the same year before touring with Pink in 2019. He released some singles over the pandemic, and has a new album released this year for you to go check out.

Hey guys. Today's song is World's Smallest Violin by AJR.

So AJR is a family band, made up of three brothers named Adam Met, Jack Met, and Ryan Met. The name is their initials. The group has been around since 2005, starting to play live in 2006 with their first EP of covers released in 2010. In 2012, Ryan tweeted one of their songs to a bunch of different celebrities, including Sia who told her manager about it, who contacted a record label executive about it. The song they tweeted became their debut single, released commercially in 2013, followed by and EP later that year. Their second EP came out in 2014, followed by their debut album in 2015. They released another EP in 2016, another album in 2017 with an extended version coming out in 2018. They released a single in 2019 for an upcoming album, which got featured by Taylor Swift on Apple Music. They released another single before releasing the album later that year. In 2020 they released some singles leading up to their next album released in 2021. In 2021 they also released an interactive game on their website, and did music videos for some of their older stuff. They released a song in 2022 (that I do have saved to show later) ans started teasing about their next upcoming album. They also are working with Vivek J Tiwary on a Broadway adaption of a children's book called Harold & the Purple Crayon, so keep an eye out for that too.

Hey guys. Today's song is Sticky by The Maine.

This is an American rock band active since 2007 and made up of John O'Callaghan, Kennedy Brock, Jared Monaco, Garrett Nickelsen, and Pat Kirch with past members including Alex Ross and Ryan Osterman. The group had formed and released an EP before Ross and Osterman were replaced by Monaco and Brock respectively. In the same year they also got signed and released another EP. Their album was released in 2008 before touring with a bunch of bands I love including Good Charlotte. They released another EP, then in 2009 played on the Warped Tour and toured with other groups again. They released another album in 2010, then toured with Never Shout Never, gathering canned foods for charity along the way, releasing an EP with the band as a thank you to fans for participating. They also released a short film on iTunes, then toured internationally in 2011 and released another album. Their next album came out in 2013, along with an EP, and then in 2014 a deluxe version of the album. In 2015 they released another album, then announced on a tour that they were working on the next one, releasing Side A in late 2015 and Side B in 2016, then another album in 2017. They went on a World Tour before releasing another album in 2019 with another released in 2021. They did release a single this year so they are still going strong and undoubtedly will have more if you want to check them out.

Hey guys. Today's song is King Of My Heart by Sub-Radio.

So this is an American pop band that technically formed in 2009 although they did not start releasing music until 2016 when they released their debut album. Currently the members include Adam Bradley, Kyle Cochran, John Fengya, Michael Pereira, and Matt Prodanovich with two past members in Mike Chinen and Barry Siford. After their debut album, they opened for Smallpools and played at a festival in 2017. They then released two EPs, one in 2018 and one in 2019, before going on a US tour in the summer of 2019. They released an EP in 2020 then during the pandemic, as a way to reach new fans, started streaming on Reddit. I don't know how many new viewers that got them, but it certainly boosted Reddit's numbers so hopefully it did them some good. And if you guys have never heard them I hope you give this song a chance because I love it.

Hey guys. Today's song is Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi.

Mariya Takeuchi is a Japanese singer/songwriter active since 1978 and is considered to be one of the best-selling music artists in Japan. She released thirteen albums between 1978 and 2014, also releasing six compilations between 1982 and 2019. She may not have any recent albums, but she's still been releasing singles, with her most recent in 2020, and has been writing music for other artists in between doing her own stuff. This song is her most well-known outside of Japan, and she has said she never attempted to release her music in the Western world. In fact I think she's a little shocked about this one being popular considering it's all done in Japanese. I think the stigma of only enjoying music in a language you understand is starting to change, I mean regardless of it you get the words good music is good music and I've featured lots of songs that I like in languages other than English. It's nice to broaden your tastes and repertoire so I hope you'll give this one a chance too.

Hey guys. Today's song is Touch My Body by Mariah Carey.

Alright I think everyone knows who Mariah Carey is thanks to her Christmas song so we're gonna go through it fast. She grew up with her mom after her parents divorced, and started singing at three, copying her mom who was a former opera singer. While in high school, she worked as a demo singer, then after moving to New York landed a gig as backup for Brenda Starr, which earned her the opportunity to give her demo to the head of Columbia Records, starting her career in 1988. Since then she has released sixteen albums, and is obviously well known with a unique voice style that has only recently been replicated by Ariana Grande. She also had seventeen film credits throughout her career, and that's actually where I know her from, because my first introduction to Mariah Carey was her role in Glitter in 2001. But like I said I think most people know her because of the Christmas song that comes around every year... in fact I think I've even featured it. If not yet then I will eventually. For now, check out this older song of Mariah's which I found when listening to a nostalgia playlist. I personally don't find this one to be nostalgic, but this goes out for all of you that do feel that way.

Hey guys. Today's song is When I'm Small by Phantogram.

Phantogram is a duo from New York active since 2007 and made up of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter. They were friends since preschool, and in 2007 when they both came home, Barthel from college and Carter from New York. Carter formed a band with his brother, and these two teamed up to finish some of his earlier songs before ultimately teaming up to form a group. They started with the name Charlie Everywhere, touring New York and releasing two EP's before getting signed in 2009 and changing the band name. Carter came up with it, and after they realized that the definition was similar to how their sound is, they officially became Phantogram. They released two EPs and their debut album in 2009. Their next EP came out in 2011, and collaborated with Big Boi on their album in 2012. They released an EP in 2013, followed by their second album in 2014. They collaborated again with Big Boi in 2015 to make their EP, then released the band's third album in 2016. In 2018 they released a single with proceeds going to charity, before releasing their next album in 2020. There hasn't been anything since, but I'm sure it's coming so keep an eye out.

Hey guys. Today's song is Daniel by Bat For Lashes.

Bat For Lashes is the stage name for British musician Natasha Khan, who's been active since 2006. Her family was made up of many famous people, ranging from sports players to actresses. She started playing piano as a kid, and after high school would listening to songs she wrote while working at a card packing factory. She studied music in university, then after graduating worked on music in her free time while working as a nursery school teacher. The moniker doesn't actually mean anything, other than give you spooky halloweeny vibes. She got signed and released her debut album in 2006, that was re-released the next year internationally. It did well and she was actually nominated for two Brit awards in 2008 for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist. Her next album came out in 2009 and features her alter-ego Pearl, which was just an experiment that she did while in New York working on the album. This song is actually from that album, and won her an Ivor Novello Award. She did some touring and collaborating in 2010 and 2011 before her third album was released in 2012. She spent some more time touring and collaborating and then debuted her music project at a festival in 2015, that group being called Sexwitch which included her and the band Toy. Her fourth album was released in 2016 with another album in 2019. A fun fact about those last two albums is that Khan has actually written full film scripts for each of them, so I'd love to see what those are. Lately she's been doing the family thing, having a child in 2020, but I'm sure we'll see more from her later on. For now enjoy!

Hey guys. Today's song is I Used To Care by Louyah.

I can't find any official bio for this guy so instead I'm going to share how difficult it's been for me today to try and get this stuff done because someone in the building I live in made the fire alarm go off. And I live with my grandma in what is technically an adult only building, but is basically 90% seniors so the alarm is more obnoxious than any fire alarm I have ever encountered. I was in PJ's so I threw on pants and went down and I was still outside before most people (with my grandma in tow, don't worry). Eventually we were cleared to come back in but last time this happened it got set off about three different times so I've been on edge waiting for the next evacuation order and stressing myself out. Here's hoping it'll be the end for today, but I'll have to wait and see. Wish me luck.

Hey guys. Today's song is Neon Lights by Pim Stones.

So Pim Stones is the moniker for a British singer/songwriter/produce whose been around since 2010, but is kind of mysterious. And I mean that by the fact that you can't really find much music from him. He had a single in 2010, then another in 2015 that was leading up to an EP, but instead of getting an EP from him, his online presence went completely inactive. There was nothing until this song in 2016 when it was featured on Teen Wolf. The giant gap of five years makes me think that he might have pulled his old music, maybe he wasn't happy with it anymore I don't know. Anyway if one of you wants to take on the mystery that is Pim Stones be my guest. I'd be interested to see what happened. He apparently is alive and working on new music, but we'll have to see.

Hey guys. Today's song is Sorrow by The National.

These guys are a rock band active since 1999 and made up of Matt Berninger, Aaron Dressner, Bryce Dressner, Bryan Devendorf, and Scott Devendorf. The group started with Berninger, Aaron Dressner and the Devendorf brothers before Aaron's twin joined the group after the release of their first album in 2001. Their next album came out in 2003, followed by an EP in 2004. With the success they got a deal with a label (rather than running their own) and quit their day jobs before releasing another album in 2005. They released another in 2007, a documentary in 2008, and a compilation album in 2009. Their next album, which is where this song is from, was released in 2010 and did really well in sales in multiple countries. They were nominated for a BRIT award in 2011, and continued to release singles and perform. Their next album came out in 2013, leading to a Grammy nomination. They did another documentary and continued to perform at various festivals for a couple years before releasing an album in 2017. They got nominated for two Grammy awards, winning one for Best Alternative Album. In 2018 they wrote some music for a musical called Cyrano, then released an album in 2019, then contributed to Taylor Swift's album in 2020 which was produced by the Dressner brothers. In 2021 the musical was adapted to film, so they came back to do some instrumental stuff, and once 2022 rolled away they got the go to start touring again, so that's what they've been up to lately and have plans going already for their ninth album. So lots to listen to if you want.

Hey guys. Today's song is Dive Deep by Andrew Belle.

Andrew Belle is an American musician active since 2008 after graduating from college and playing in clubs. He released his debut EP in 2008 and debut album in 2010, which had songs used in some major pop culture things. He spent some time touring with Ten Out of Tenn then released his next EP in 2012. His next album was released in 2013, followed by a 2014 EP of stripped down versions of those songs. This song came out it 2016 in preparation for the full album released in 2017 followed by him going on a fully sold out tour. He did another stripped down album of the 2017 songs in 2018 and went on a US tour in support of Mat Kearney. He released his fourth album during the pandemic with it coming out in 2021, so go check that out if you're curious.

Hey guys. Today's song is Deepest Darkness by Ocean Alley.

These guys are an Australian band active since 2011 and made up of Baden Donegal, Angus Goodwin, Nic Blom, Lach Galbraith, Mitch Galbraith, and Tom O'Brien. They released their first EP in 2013 and performed around Sydney to build their following before doing an interstate tour in 2014. They ended up touring around Australia five time, driving to gigs and gaining more and more fans before releasing another EP in 2015. They spent time working on their album and touring before the album was released in 2016, which they then toured for around Europe. They did more of that through 2017 with other bands before releasing their next album in 2018 and started releasing singles in 2019 leading up to another album release in 2020. They do have another album that is due to come out this month, so keep an eye out for that if you like their sound.

Hey guys. Today's song is My Smile Is Extinct by Kane Strang.

This guy is a musician from New Zealand and has been active since 2013. He grew up around music as his family is full of musicians. He started out in a band called Dinosaur Sanctuary, releasing an album with them in 2013 before travelling to Germany. While he was there he recorded some of his own stuff, doing it in an old war bunker. When he came home he released what he recorded as a solo act, becoming his debut EP also released in 2013. Since then he has gotten signed and released two albums, the first in 2016 and the other in 2017, although that was with a different label. He's a new find for me so I hope you guys are as interested to check out his other stuff as I am. Enjoy.
