Day 9

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

In order to celebrate this awesome holiday, I am dedicating this blog to my aunt and uncle. You know what they dressed up as? The Slap Chop guy and a Shake Weight girl. Wicked. Okay, so today's song I heard playing from some unknown location down the street. I'm sure you know it already. Thriller by Michael Jackson, the legend himself.

this is the original MJ. he is the legend

Now, I had already had a song picked out for today, but right before I wrote this I thought to myself "dude, halloween deserves better" so here you go. I know he did some crazy things, learning towards pedaphilia and baby murder attempts (I really don't want details) along with wanting to be a white female, BUT he is still legendary for his music and crazy ass dance moves. Dancers everywhere pay tribute to him...and so do the two little boys that came dressed as MJ (like he is in the picture) that got extra candy for their awesome taste!

So that's it. I wasn't very exciting for dressing up this halloween, I figure if you don't go all out, then don't do it. But I think I know what I'll be next year...sorry, it's a secret. So tell me what you were for halloween, let's see how cliche' you were.

Peace.

Genre Mash Up

Genre's used to be so black and white. Pop. Rock. Rap. Techno. Simple classifications to keep your music together. Now, half the songs on my ipod I wouldn't be able to put into a genre if I tried. The lines between the types have gotten so blurred that you can't see the lines anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. It creates music for every type of person out there, because you know as well as I do that people do not fit into cliche's perfectly by any means. I would just like to know what genre something is. Perhaps the band should have to tell us upon release dates. Have it say on the back of the CD:
"the following music is performed in public under the classification of R&B punk lite"

Although I guess that might be kind of strange...

Question. Do you think music should always be classified in the same genre as the band is put in?

I liked you much better when you were this small

I've definitely heard songs that don't fit the status quo of the rest done by a band or singer. Hell the best example is The Moffatts whose CD that I own is filled with feel good songs completely, until you get to the last song which sounds like a soundtrack you slit your wrists to. No offence boys, I still love the song, but it is way too different than what you normally do. It scared me slightly.

My answer to the question would have to be no, since if I was in the mood for some peppy loving life tunes and then they played something really depressing, just because of who sang it, I'd be pissed.

I should be able to think of more bands to give as examples, but I really can't. Perhaps you can voice some examples of your own...if you agree with me on the matter.

Peace.

Day 8

You have no idea how unbelievably stoked I am right now. Today's song is Cross My Heart by Marianas Trench. So I have always liked the voice of the singer, but I also watch video on trial and he was on there. I didn't know it when I first saw him and liked him by how funny he was. Then I made the connection, when he was on it to critique one of his own videos. Awesome.

great faces guys
If I was the girl in the video I wouldn't be able to handle myself. They would have to re-shoot it a million times because I'd end up smiling, if not having a full on giggle fit that he was so close to my face. Also I would like to point out that two members in this band are significantly hot, and I'd do them...again with half of a band (I'm such a horn dog when it comes to musicians) but that seems to be my norm, so whatever. Can you guess which ones?

Peace.

Day 7

I'm sorry this is so down to the wire!! I got distracted by a book, sucking my into Italy in 1340. ANYWAY this one is dedicated to Anna, who showed me this awhile ago and it is always in the back of my mind, rearing it's ugly head to come out. It is The Natalie Portman Rap which is done by Natalie Portman but is actually from a Saturday Night Live skit.

possibly the prettiest woman in the world

Yes, I know it's vulgar, but that's pretty much what SNL is. Those of you who have seen it CAN NOT deny that. Not to mention the Natalie is one of the sweetest looking people in Hollywood, which is what makes this rant so epic. So anyway, that's today's little tidbit and I think it's safe to say I'm now out of my bubblegum power pop obsession....for now, at least.

Peace.

Day 6

Alright so today is a Thursday, which means I had choir practice. And yes, I know what you're thinking about choir being stupid. It's really just like some of the music out there, it's an acquired taste. Anyway, so in honour of my choir rehearsal, today's song is Chile Con Carne performed by The Real Group.

can you look bad ass while singing about Chile?
Now, this song is one of the ones I was talking about, an acquired taste, but I am obsessed just the same. This song songs like it would be easy to sing, but the rhythm is so out of whack that if you try sight reading it, you will fail. We have started to get it now that we are breaking down the parts and will most likely be performing it in January. When this happens I'll show you our attempt at it.
All I gotta say is that this Swedish dude that wrote it, must have REALLY loved Chile.

Triple Threat Nonsense.

There was a time, long long ago, when to be famous you were either an actor, a musician, or a dancer. People who could do more than one of these were considered amazing and highly coveted in the business.

Flash forward to today and everybody who's anybody is a triple threat. Even people who wouldn't be able to sing with technology and who couldn't dance without their multi-million dollar costing dance instructor are seen as some of the best there is. Now to make it, you have to be versatile, and if you can only sing, or act, you are dog food.

Of course, I don't speak facts, but this is just how I see the world has evolved. I miss the days when if someone asked who your favorite actor was, you could answer "Bruce Willis" and know that there was no mistaking him for having a pop album somewhere, (and I hope that he doesn't, I'm a bit afraid to check now) a time when Miley Cyrus COULD be tamed, and just pick one thing she wants to do because you know she has enough money to get by without plastering that face everywhere.

Now if you're doing musical theatre, that's a different story. Live plays need people who are versatile so they don't have to have a crazy amount of people on stage, making it hard to follow the story, but for the big film industry I have a message:

Give people who have a talent (even just one) a fighting chance.

And to those young stars out there who seem to think doing everything is the norm? just stop. Bieber, you don't need a movie deal. Miranda Cosgrove, stick to your acting chops. Adam Sevani, keep dancing your heart and and please never attempt music unless you are as good at it as you are at dancing.

Sorry if this is a hopeless rant and you don't agree at all, but it's a blog. Blogs are where you express yourself, regardless of if you make sense or not so if you don't like it, you can suck it....but I hope you like it.

Peace.

Day 5

Alright, This one you probably saw coming. Last night glee did the rocky horror show, but I just watched it now. I like the song Time Warp WAY before glee did it. They used to play it at my junior high school dances. Granted, then I didn't know it was from rocky horror, but I still loved it.

This is really the only picture to describe this show, the title.
So the rocky horror picture show has been around for the better part of 40 years, it was created in the 70's. You know somethings good when people still love it after this long. People think it's promiscuous now...I wonder what people thought of it back then?

Needless to say I love this song. It brings me back to my teenie bopper days when I was insecure, with crazy ass friends and danced like I was having a seizure not caring who saw it....sounds a lot like today. Thank you rocky horror musical. I salute you!

Peace.

P.S. Who is your favorite character from rocky horror? Mine is riff raff. He is flippin awesome!!

Day 4

Hey! So today's song I found when I was surfing YouTube waiting for supernatural to load on my computer (yes, I watch supernatural) and I thought it was pretty genius. It is called Cheater Of The Year by Evan Taubenfeld.

Now I've never been cheated on, because I've never dated anyone. All I know is that if I get cheated on I'll probably be one of those scary ex-girlfriends that doesn't cry about it, but instead trashes something you love and makes your life a living hell. I can imagine myself doing that and in the background this song is playing.

I love a guy who plays guitar!
So that's the guy, and after searching him I found out that he used to be the lead guitarist for someone I listened to all the time: Avril Lavigne....at least listened to while she was still good at doing her own thing, instead of buying into the sound of singers nowadays where it's mostly a synthesizer doing the work.

Anyway, I definitely like the sound he's bringing to the floor and am glad to have him on my music 365, check out more of his stuff if you like it, because I know I'm going to.

Peace.

Day 3

So it may be too early in this list for you to tell, but I have a certain type of music that is my favorite, something my friend Anna classifies as bubblegum power pop.

Don't get me wrong I do love lots of different kinds of music, as I'll be showing you in the future, but this week I'm particularly into the bubblegum power pop and have been listening to it non stop. So in honor of my pop phase, today's song is Chelsea by The Summer Set.

I heard this song before I even saw a picture of the band and I was jamming with it the first play. THEN I saw the band.

couches should always be outside...unless it's snowing

Now first, I just want to say props to the girl in this band, for making it in the biz as a girl drummer. We all know this is pretty hard to do. You can see that the band has a lot of character and that definitely appeals to me, just look at the names of the band members on their wikipedia page.

I had a discussion with Anna about the members of the bnd and concluded that if I was to do any of them (yes, we talk about this kind of stuff) it would have to be the base player. In the music video he licks his instrument. Hot. And finding out that this song was written about Chelsea Staub makes it so much more awesome.

Anyway, I promise I'll start feeding you music other than bubblegum power pop, but for now just enjoy it!

Peace.

Day 2

You know how when you have a song stuck in your head, but only know a few words of it and it just keeps playing over and over and over until you think your brain might explode? I didn't have that today.

I wish that that is how it would have been. Instead I had a song stuck in my head that I know all the words to. You'd think that would make it  better but that is a big fat lie. I ended up singing this song all the way through more than twenty times today!

Meh, even though it almost drove me insane I still love it. Today's song is Graduation by Vitamin C.

First of all, I used to listen to this song everyday dreaming about how amazing my grad would be. Now that I've actually graduated and ended up losing lots of my friends because we don't talk (except through facebook which SO does not count) this song has really just gotten depressing.

Her hair is just...weird.
And okay, I need to say something about this music video. The high school it portrays is stupid....a little accurate, but still just ridiculous. All the little groups that they show in this video, they do exist...you just never see them. Well, all the groups except the cheerleaders. Those are extinct in the Canadian school system (and I am so Happy for that!) but people in school are still cheerleaders somewhere else, they just don't cheer in the school hallway.

This chick? The short haired blond girl is creepy. If you stood two feet away from some dude just staring at him when he's talking to his friend THEY WILL SEE YOU! GO back to lurking from your own locker.

All I can say about that choir is they are so lucky to have some soulful black woman to sing out. My high school choir had like 70 people, and we were are ridiculously white...trying to sing black gospel music...it was a fail to say the least.

Well that's it. I wont say anything more about her video, but you should! If you see something out that is just odd, tell me about it. We can laugh at the warped percetion of high school life together!

Peace.

The Power Of Red Hair

So today I had an epiphany. Bands that have ginger singers are just so much more awesome. I am more likely to listen to a band that has some dude with red/orange hair in it.

I can't even begin to explain it why, it just is the way it is. So here are three bands that in this aspect have got it going on....the music is good too, in case you thought I didn't care about that :P

A Rocket To The Moon
The first band is A Rocket To The Moon.

The band members are Nick Santino, Eric Halvorsen, Justin Richards and Andrew Cook (I don't know who's who) and something interesting is that they toured with a whole bunch of bands that I like.

Now these guys aren't smokin hot, but they are moderately attractive as you can see from the picture and their music is pretty damn amazing.

I'll probably be feauturing a song by them later on in the 364 so I wont tell you my favorite song by them right now, you'll just have to wait and see!

Forever The Sickest Kids

Another is Forever The Sickest Kids.

The members are Jonathan Cook, Austin Bello, Caleb Turman, Kent Garrison, Marc Stewart and Kyle Burns.

It should be no suprise that this group is on here, since they were today's 365. I love this band, and honestly they are fucking sexy. So...they make my day.

We The Kings
Now I have one more example for you and that is We The Kings.

Band members are Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, Drew Thomsen and Danny Duncan.

This was the first of the three bands that I found and I actually first heard them on rock band. After that I became obsessed with the one song and added them to my playlist. They are another band that are wicked and added to the hall of fame for great bands with ginger singers.

So here is my challenge to you. Find a band that I haven't shown you that rocks and has a ginger in it. Please share it, and if I love them like you do, they may show up in the 365. So I'm outtie now, just though I'd share that thought.

Peace.

Uhh...

Okay so I'm not really sure how to do this...but you probably don't give a damn anyway so....

DAY 1

Today the song I can't get out of my head no matter how hard I try is Whoa Oh by Forever The Sickest Kids.

These guys are so wicked. I love them. The music is catchy (hence me not being able to get it out of my brain) and another thing I love is THE HAIR. These guys have so much hair collectively, it's almost unbelievable.

So Much Hair!
Anyway, if you haven't heard them before then check them out. They make pretty awesome music videos (another thing I love about them.)

Peace.

P.S. They are also pretty fucking hot. I would jump at least half of them....perhaps you can guess which ones :P
