Singing About her.

What's in a name? A LOT!! Well, when it comes to singing about a girl, it matters to me. There's no doubt thousands of songs out there about different people, whether it's the title of the song, or just mentioned in the song in every verse. And although there are so many songs about people out there, I have yet to come across one about a Stephanie or Steph or Stefi. I would accept it being an angsty song, where this Stephanie character is the evil girl who broke their heart...so long as there was a song about her. I know it sound weird, but I just really want a song with my name in it that can sort of act as my anthem in times of trouble or confusion.

I know in a lot of the rants I do and will do, I tend to over exaggerate just a bit too much, but I assure you this time I'm not:

The song Chelsea that summer set did. It's super catchy and the main part (the one that everyone knows by the end) is just a repeat of her name six times. Don't believe me? Go back and listen to the chorus. Half the words in it are 'Chelsea.'

And what about the song Becky by Be Your Own Pet? (to appear later in the 365) Sure the song is about some bitch named Becky, but still it's about her, named after her, and once again her name is part of the chorus...even though it's mostly the guys in the band saying Becky in the background.

Don't even try and blame it on names that are generic. I have never met some one name Rhonda (yes that's right, I'm talking about the Beach Boys) and I have met a lot of people. Yet, the song is called help me Rhonda and they say that line many many times.





Is Stephanie just a bad omen? I notice in movies the character who ends up dead is (more often then not) named that. Well I must say it depresses me a little bit. So if you know a song about someone with my name, dare to share. Or if you write music and are itching for a new project, take up my cause, and write a song about me....which will be a difficult challenge if you don't know me well.

A Waste Of CD Space.

What has happened to CD's nowadays? I'm talking about the fact that there is now only even 8 - 10 songs on a CD when back in the day (when I was younger) there used to be about 20. And not just filler songs, but legit twenty good songs.

And the industry wonders why people download songs (illegally or otherwise) instead of buying the CD? It's because we aren't getting our money's worth to purchase one today. I am not going to pay twenty bucks for eight songs, when a few years ago I bought a CD for that amount that had thirty songs on it. Screw that.

They didn't used to release singles either when I was younger. What is the point of buying a disc, when every song you can get already as a single. I do have to hand it to them though. They are making it harder and harder to get music without buying it, now that limewire is dead. I have had to resort to a video converter, and even that isn't for sure. It is a sad sad day when music costs more than it's worth, and with the music in the charts lately? That day is everyday.

Genre Mash Up

Genre's used to be so black and white. Pop. Rock. Rap. Techno. Simple classifications to keep your music together. Now, half the songs on my ipod I wouldn't be able to put into a genre if I tried. The lines between the types have gotten so blurred that you can't see the lines anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. It creates music for every type of person out there, because you know as well as I do that people do not fit into cliche's perfectly by any means. I would just like to know what genre something is. Perhaps the band should have to tell us upon release dates. Have it say on the back of the CD:

"the following music is performed in public under the classification of R&B punk lite"

Although I guess that might be kind of strange...


Question. Do you think music should always be classified in the same genre as the band is put in?


I liked you much better when you were this small

I've definitely heard songs that don't fit the status quo of the rest done by a band or singer. Hell the best example is The Moffatts whose CD that I own is filled with feel good songs completely, until you get to the last song which sounds like a soundtrack you slit your wrists to. No offence boys, I still love the song, but it is way too different than what you normally do. It scared me slightly.

My answer to the question would have to be no, since if I was in the mood for some peppy loving life tunes and then they played something really depressing, just because of who sang it, I'd be pissed.

I should be able to think of more bands to give as examples, but I really can't. Perhaps you can voice some examples of your own...if you agree with me on the matter.

Triple Threat Nonsense.

There was a time, long long ago, when to be famous you were either an actor, a musician, or a dancer. People who could do more than one of these were considered amazing and highly coveted in the business.

Flash forward to today and everybody who's anybody is a triple threat. Even people who wouldn't be able to sing with technology and who couldn't dance without their multi-million dollar costing dance instructor are seen as some of the best there is. Now to make it, you have to be versatile, and if you can only sing, or act, you are dog food.

 Of course, I don't speak facts, but this is just how I see the world has evolved. I miss the days when if someone asked who your favorite actor was, you could answer "Bruce Willis" and know that there was no mistaking him for having a pop album somewhere, (and I hope that he doesn't, I'm a bit afraid to check now) a time when Miley Cyrus COULD be tamed, and just pick one thing she wants to do because you know she has enough money to get by without plastering that face everywhere.

Now if you're doing musical theatre, that's a different story. Live plays need people who are versatile so they don't have to have a crazy amount of people on stage, making it hard to follow the story, but for the big film industry I have a message:

Give people who have a talent (even just one) a fighting chance.

And to those young stars out there who seem to think doing everything is the norm? just stop. Bieber, you don't need a movie deal. Miranda Cosgrove, stick to your acting chops. Adam Sevani, keep dancing your heart and and please never attempt music unless you are as good at it as you are at dancing.

 Sorry if this is a hopeless rant and you don't agree at all, but it's a blog. Blogs are where you express yourself, regardless of if you make sense or not so if you don't like it, you can suck it....but I hope you like it.

The Power Of Red Hair

So today I had an epiphany. Bands that have ginger singers are just so much more awesome. I am more likely to listen to a band that has some dude with red/orange hair in it.

I can't even begin to explain it why, it just is the way it is. So here are three bands that in this aspect have got it going on....the music is good too, in case you thought I didn't care about that :P



A Rocket To The Moon

 The first band is A Rocket To The Moon.

The band members are Nick Santino, Eric Halvorsen, Justin Richards and Andrew Cook (I don't know who's who) and something interesting is that they toured with a whole bunch of bands that I like.

Now these guys aren't smokin hot, but they are moderately attractive as you can see from the picture and their music is pretty damn amazing.

I'll probably be feauturing a song by them later on in the 364 so I wont tell you my favorite song by them right now, you'll just have to wait and see!





Forever The Sickest Kids



Another is Forever The Sickest Kids.

The members are Jonathan Cook, Austin Bello, Caleb Turman, Kent Garrison, Marc Stewart and Kyle Burns.

It should be no suprise that this group is on here, since they were today's 365. I love this band, and honestly they are fucking sexy. So...they make my day.



We The Kings

 Now I have one more example for you and that is We The Kings.

Band members are Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, Drew Thomsen and Danny Duncan.

This was the first of the three bands that I found and I actually first heard them on rock band. After that I became obsessed with the one song and added them to my playlist. They are another band that are wicked and added to the hall of fame for great bands with ginger singers.


So here is my challenge to you. Find a band that I haven't shown you that rocks and has a ginger in it. Please share it, and if I love them like you do, they may show up in the 365. So I'm outtie now, just though I'd share that thought.
