Year 3, Day 67

Hi! So today I give you Lovesick by Sweet Talk Radio.

This is a beautiful song from one of the newer chick flicks I've found that I really enjoy. It goes without saying that these guys are far off from being mainstream, but I don't see why. It's a husband and wife duo, living and writing through life. Living in LA, it makes sense that their stuff has been in a movie, but they still aren't well known. They have been touring and releasing albums so hopefully you guys will help bring their stuff out to the rest of the world. Here is their Facebook, Twitter and website, so check them out and pass it along.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 66

What's Up. So today's song is Rockstar by Fefe Dobson.

Sorry for the random video with pictures of irrelevant people. It's the only YouTube video I could find with the song undisturbed. The only other video is from the scene in Hellcats that I took the song from, so if you prefer to watch that, the link is here. I don't know what really to say about Fefe. She's a good singer, and has actually made quite the comeback into the charts with a few hits songs. She's Canadian too, which makes me proud, but she isn't my favorite. Still she makes great tracks so check out her other stuff.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 65

Hey! Today's song is F.M.S.T.A.T.I.C. by Fm Static.

I absolutely love this song. At first I didn't because I was confused by the cheering, but now I like that part too. I hadn't ever heard of these guys before, but now I approve of them as a band. I found them by watching Hellcats again. It was a weird show, but they always had good background music so thank to Shazam, I saved it all to show you guys. I also must say: Go Canada!! These guys are from Toronto, providing more examples of producing good Canadian music. Here is their Facebook page, and Myspace page, because apparently it's making a comeback.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 64

Morning! So today's song is Prisencolinensinainciusol by Adriano Celentano.

Sorry guys, I kind of got distracted so I am going to get myself caught up ASAP. This song I thought I might have shown you already because I talked about it so much to so many different people months ago. A quick check said no I haven't so let's do it today! This is an Italian song, and was made to mimic the way English sounds to other people. It is completely gibberish. As someone who only speaks English, I find this absolutely hilarious and apologize that this is how I may sound. I really did not know lol. His dance moves are great. Just look at that hip action! Him and his wife (the woman also singing) must have an awesome time together. Can I also point out just how fashionable this man is? He is wearing a jacket and scarf...and no shirt. It took so long for me to notice that. Anyway I always listened to this to force myself into a good mood on school days, so I hope it does for you too.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 63

Hello. So today's song is Single Girls by Laura Jansen.

I love this song. It embodies everything I imagine people feel in a break up, and from what I've seen of my sister's romances, it's true. You try so hard to forget that person by doing all these thing, change your look to be that different better person, but you still contemplate what that person would think of what you do, or what they're doing. Even with that feeling, you keep pushing on and one day it'll just stop. Eventually you'll be fine, and I love that. So I know I told you guys a lengthy story about how my grad was at that I mentioned getting weird advice that day. Well my school posted the video that they showed us, so I wanted to share it with you guys. You can check it out here.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 62

Hey. So today's song is Story Of My Life by One Direction.

Yes it's more British. Yes it's One Direction. Even though I'm not a fan of them I can appreciate a good song just as well as the next person. Plus knowing that McFly has kind of helped and taken these guys under their wing a bit makes me more open to them. The song is good on its own, but the video almost made me cry. Redoing the family pictures was beautiful and heartfelt, and then....Louis redid his family picture. My grandparents are one of my dearest possessions in life, because they are the only people who have been there for me always, and the possibility of them dying terrifies me more than anything. I'm lucky enough to still have a great grandparent kicking, as well as all of my grandparents, but that doesn't mean I don't still worry about it. Anyway, no matter your thoughts on One Direction, watch the video for this song because it was done beautifully.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 61

Hi guys. So today's song is Move by Little Mix.

While I'm already in British artists that I like I might as well continue, so here is a song from Little Mix. This video is for the official video, but I really started liking this song from their dance rehearsal video. It's linked here. I watched it over and over again because I just loved it and now I kind of can't hear this song without seeing the moves in my head and being able to do most of them in reality. Although I don't do them...unless I'm alone....or am lacking self control. Sometimes I can't help myself and it always ends badly because I can't dance. So check out the song, and check out the dance if you're curious.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 60

Hello. So today's song is Love Is On The Radio by McFly.

After four hours and three different virus remover programs I finally got my computer back the way it was. Halle-freaking-lujah. So now I can calm myself and focus on the happy, hence one of the songs and videos that truly makes me fell good! If you've kept up with my blog, you know that I feature McFly every year I do it, and that's because I really enjoy them. I like that they experiment with their sound and each CD is a different music style, while still having their McFly twist in it. The video is super cute with them just goofing around and the baby McFly band is adorable!!! I also love how happy Tom is cradling the imaginary baby, because if the timeline is right, this was a little before Giovanna and Tom announced their baby was on the way. He's been born now and they name him Buzz, so I've been saving this song for awhile to show you, but it's still as good as when it first came out. And as a bonus, here's the version Tom did with his sister Carrie. Give it a listen.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 59

Morning! Today I give you Crash Your Party by Karmin.

I chose this song yesterday to show you guys today, but apparently life agreed with me, as I have been dealing with the premise of the title for the last two hours. Someone is crashing my party. That someone is a computer virus. This deal4me shit has now gotten on my computer twice, and the last time it happened when I finally got it deleted it took my Microsoft Word with it! So now I have no word on my computer, and the same virus has decided to come back AGAIN. The person who created the adware has a death wish and better hope I never find out who they are. If this happens to you I recommend getting Revo Uninstaller to take the stupid thing and its pathways off, BUT you need to clear out any and all traces or it could come back (which it did for me.) I used Revo and am using Anvisoft to clean out my system right now so I'll tell you if it works. Sorry for the randomness today, but this is kind of my life right now. Anyway song is weird, but interesting and kind of catchy. Check it and the artist out for more on YouTube.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 58

Hey. So today's song is Shelter Valley by Gentlemen Husbands.

I know I say that most of the people I show you are underrated bands, but today I really mean it. Sure they have become pretty big here since 2010, but as far as worldwide recognition...There is so much amazing music produced by Canadian labels that no one ever hears outside the country. Some artists are lucky enough to break through the barrier with YouTube and get noticed in the States where most music companies reside, but more often than not it's a Canadian secret. I think these guys are amazing, and yet I don't know anyone in my circle of people who have heard them before. Even though it's grown, a lot of their fan base has come from when they open for other people. It's about time they get noticed doing their own thing. As usual, here is where to reach their updates: Facebook, Twitter, Website. So no matter where you are in the world, share this with people, and don't be shy to send me music. I'm always looking for new stuff to enjoy and introduce my friends to.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 57

What Up. So today's song is Down In The Valley by The Head and the Heart.

There are so many people that have expressed being in a mood where this song just spoke to them. It's a perfect song for when you're feeling kind of down, or just calm, or when you're in that mood that you can't really explain to anyone how you're feeling. Usually for me it's that last one, where there is no word to say how you feel, but this song hits your heart and you stop to listen. I don't necessarily feel this way right now, but it's been so dreary in Calgary for the last week with all the nonstop rain, so I thought this week would be the best time to put it up. If you want to check them out more here is the Facebook, Twitter and website.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 56

Hi guys. So today's song is Let Go by Patent Pending.

This is a seriously underrated band. They are so good! I personally know all the words to this song now because I played it so god damn much when I first found it.This band formed in 2001 in New York, and since then most of the members have changed except for the singer. In 2012 they were actually a supporting band for Bowling For Soup. BFS is one of my all time favorite bands. They've also cited some of my other favorite bands as influencing their music. I was basically destined to like this band, and I hope you will too. This is their Facebook, Twitter and band page if you wanna check them out more.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 55

Hey. Today's song is First Impressions by Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez.

So I just found out that Zachary Levi got married! He is one of my favorite actors, because of Chuck (which is one of my favorite TV shows). To make it even cooler, he married Missy Peregrym who was in Stick It. I loved that movie. I was also watching Rookie Blue for awhile which is her TV show. Not to mention they got married in Maui, which is a really beautiful place. My aunt lives there so we used to go visit her for vacations. Anyway that's why this song today, because it is Zachary Levi.

This is a song from the musical First Date. I've been following this play for awhile because I wanted to see it so badly, but it's in New York and I...am not. The show looks hilarious and this song is so funny, plus I know it has to be good because of Krysta Rodriguez. She was in Smash for the second season, and was honestly the only good thing about the show for a long time. The musical isn't running anymore, but I hope they do it again at some point so I get to see it. For now, these songs will have to do for all of us.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 54

Morning! So today's song is Stay The Night by Zedd featuring Hayley Williams.

Lately in the music industry, DJ's and instrumentalists have become more popular in the mainstream by teaming up with various singers on tracks. It's pretty similar to the fad of featuring rappers on every track. This song in particular has Hayley Williams on it, who is the singer in Paramore. I'll be featuring Paramore later on in this list. This song is pretty repetitive, but it's good and the video is put together beautifully so check it out.

Peace.

Monday, June 16, 2014

Year 3, Day 53

Hey guys. So today's song is All Of Me by John Legend.

This version is featuring Lindsey Stirling, and I heard this one before the song starting getting played all over the radio. As you should already know, I love pretty much everything Lindsey does, and this collaboration shows exactly why I like her. She is true to the song and let's it breathe through her music while still giving her own flair to it. I also think its cool that the whole video concept was her own and she had been super nervous to do the collaboration for fear of John Legend not liking the concept. But according to her behind the scenes video he was a really nice guy and loved everything. If you're curious about her other stuff check out her YouTube channel.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 52

What's up! So today's song is Everybody Dance Now by C & C Music Factory.

So for today to end the happy week I give you the ultimate happy music. This song is legitimately impossible not to get excited at when you hear the first DUM DUM do do DUM. My sister gets tired of it because the song does go on for a long time, but I have always loved it. I'm pretty sure the first time I heard this song was in the Space Jam movie, which is just a funny fact. The real reason though that I remembered this song to put it on the list is because of my favorite ice dance team. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are a Canadian ice dance team who've been partnered since they were kids. The won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and got silver at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. I have to admit that the routines from 2010 I liked better, but they still should have won this year too. Oh well, they are good sports and quirky which is the real reason why I love them as shown in this video. It's possibly my favorite thing ever so check it out.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 51

Hi everybody. So today's song is You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall & Oates.

We're going old school for this one and it feels so right! Honestly I do not know what kind of people you are reading this blog since we've never actually met, but if you aren't acquainted with this song please listen to it. I know that Hall & Oates seems laughable just because of how they looked, but in the time period they were considered cool and this song itself has kind of become iconic. As the comments on this video show, it's a challenge to not move to the music. Seriously I dare you to sit completely still (and not sing along if you know the song). So tell me how you do with this little challenge and I'll see you tomorrow.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 50

Hey guys. So today's song is New Soul by Yael Naim.

So this song is a little slower and very methodic, but I still consider it to be one of my happy songs. If you listen to the lyrics it's a pretty great story about life, and as I'm in a transitional period in my own life, that speaks to me personally. I can only hope it does for you guys too. Lucky for me this video includes some background information on the artist, so here we go: Yael Naim was born in Paris in 1978, and began her singing career in 2001 with the release of her first solo album. This song in particular was released in 2008 on February 15. That would be my fifteenth birthday which is a fact I found interesting. It's a good feeling when you find out songs you love came out on your birthday, it's like some weird karma. Anyway check out the song and have a good week!

Peace.

Year 3, Day 49

Hello. So today's song is Rude by MAGIC!

Alright, this song has been out for awhile and has gotten pretty big, but I've been saving it for you since before that. I actually found this song and absolutely loved it, then about a week later I found advertisements for it everywhere. What's super great about this is that they're Canadian. There aren't a lot of Canadian artists people know about, and most of the ones they do know are really not a good representation. I love the reggae sound in this song and I think you'll love it too. So check it out.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 48

Hey. So today's song is Happy by Pharrell Williams.

Because this is my graduating week I have decided to put only happy songs until Sunday. So what better song to feature than one that is called Happy and sweeping the world (despite Pharrell's completely ridiculous hats.) I follow some of my favorite artists on Twitter, that's all I really use it for, and one guy posted the funniest thing. Zachary Levi, a.k.a Chuck, wrote "so Pharrell, you're essentially trying to tell me is if I'm happy, and I know it, I should clap my hands? I'm in." It made me giggle, since that is what the song is saying in its entirety. Anyway everyone seems to love this song and it sets off my happy week pretty perfectly so enjoy.

I promised yesterday that I would put up a picture from grad so there you go. Describing my grad in five words: it was good, weird, funny, long, and enjoyable. That last one can't be said about most grads in my opinion, but this one had a great mix of stuff to keep everyone entertained. From the running commentary while introducing names, to the random advice (put on sunscreen) to the flair people gave their ten seconds of stage time. I'm going to give a play by play of the whole thing below so if you don't care, stop here. Otherwise carry on!

So when I first arrived I grabbed my gown and was herded into the main area on the first level. I said hi to one guy I knew from my class, stood around awkwardly then went down to the main level and found Shanda. Eventually Apple joined us so we took a few photos with her family, then had to get lined up for the ceremony. I ended up with Neveen and Emily, and had a ridiculously tall dude right beside me. I hugged a few people, reminisced about the time in school then we had to be marched up into the auditorium. For some reason we ended up in the very front row for the speeches and a little video with advice for the graduates. Main piece of advice provided as I said above was to put on sunscreen. It was random and odd, but somehow perfect. Names, names, names...then we were pulled into the hallway to go backstage for our turn to be called on. Unfortunately we were lined up backwards, so we had to be rearranged. To do this we moved farther in around a corner and the tall dude ended up smacking into the roof. I fixed his hat for him so it wasn't bent while everyone laughed about it.

Up some steps and into another room we were fluffed and given our diplomas to carry (in a very specific way) while us marketing students, being the weirdos we are, harassed the volunteers that instead of giving us water shots before going on stage we should really have tequila shots. They disagreed. At this point there was a camera girl, so everyone was jumping in and out of frame while still keeping their place in the line. I got a picture with my main friends who had actually come to grad that day. I kept getting closer and closer to the stage, my nerves flaring up with each name called. Finally we were starting my program, with Chelsea going first. Well, she set the bar haha. She walked out before she was even told to (prompting the guy giving running commentary to poke fun at her) then she strutted over to the president without her name being called and took a selfie with him, then went back over and did the walk how you're supposed to. At this point the running commentary guy just said "are all you marketers like this?" The answer is yes. Another guy I know named Thomson decided to use his phone to film his whole walk from his point of view, but he dropped his diploma in the process. All you heard was the aughhhhhhh... from the audience when it happened. When it was my turn to walk my family surprised me by not making one sound in the crowd (and all my friends were still backstage since my last name comes first) so as I walked there was pure silence. Pure Awkward Silence.

Apple, Me (Steph), Shanda, and Chelsea
I made it down the stairs off the stage and hugged two of my teachers waiting for me at the bottom. Marion wished me luck, then I got to Vicki who was just bawling her eyes out. Vicki was my Marketing Research teacher who is very passionate and very French. And I was her favorite student. So she just kept weeping while hugging me, said she was proud through her tears and I scurried away before she wrapped me in another hug. I sat down with Neveen and we debated about the contents of the water bottles the president on stage was drinking. Names, names, names, valedictorian speech. Her speech was so heartfelt and moving, with unexpected tales of tragedy. We all gave a standing ovation.  After that it was over and we filed out of the auditorium to begin the hunt of friends and family. First I found Shanda, Apple, Erin, and Chelsea (different Chelsea) who all then split off to find families. Erin found her and left before I saw her again, but I got pictures with my family, then pictures with Apple, Shanda and Chelsea for SAIT's social media page, shots of just Apple Shanda and I, then a picture frame photo with Shanda since everyone else had taken off. More pictures with my family outside and a singing card later, I handed in my robe and we went out for dinner.

blue roses, my absolute favorite
I decided that despite graduating from post secondary and being 21, I was going to be a child: I hate m&m pancakes, which I got free as a grad present from the owner. After that I brought the flowers Sammy got me home and enjoyed the softness of my bed after a long day. Damn that turned out way longer than I expected. Anyway that was my day and it was great, so thanks for reading!

Peace.

Year 3, Day 47

Hi! Today I give you Best Day Of My Life by American Authors.

So there is a reason for a song like this: today is my graduation day! I finally made it through my studies and they have graded everything so I can get my diploma.I'm just getting ready to go to the Jube to get my gown and then walk the stage. I'm so nervous! I'm always nervous  for stuff with lots of people around. The cutest thing happened already though. So I am graduating from SAIT, when I was a kid my grandpa was a teacher at SAIT, so he was pretty happy when I chose to go there. While I was getting ready I heard him say that he's more nervous than I am haha. There are few things I can do that make my grandparents truly happy, but today I actually can. Well I better finish getting dressed so I'm not late, but I wanted to share that. I'll post a picture from it tomorrow!

Peace.

Year 3, Day 46

Hey. So today's song is Summer Girls by LFO.

This song. It was really big when I was younger, I can't tell you why, but I know why people still listen to it now. It's the lyrics. There is the obvious part in the chorus when it seems like they're just saying whatever rhymes.Chinese food makes them sick? Why do I need to know that!? haha. And then the actual verses have so many pop culture references. From Macaulay Culkin to Michael J Fox. For me this song just makes me laugh now thinking about how random things were when I was a kid. It brings back good memories and I wanted to share it with you.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 45

Hey! Today I give you Back To You by Twin Forks.

So a few months ago Adelaide Kane left Teen Wolf to film her new TV show called Reign, which is a fictionalized version of Mary Queen of Scots early life. This is where I got this song from. Yes the clothing isn't accurate for the time period because a lot of it is sleeveless, but if you realize that it is fiction, as in they added characters who didn't exist in real life and story lines behind historical events, then you can really enjoy the show. And I do. Plus they don't use music accurate for the time period, but what they do use is incredible tracks. Case in point: Twin Forks. So check out the show, you may like it. And even if you don't, look up some of the songs they use in the series.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 44

Hello. Today's song is Time To Pretend by MGMT.

Why? because fluffy cats, that's why.

Well today just kind of sucks for me. Nothing necessarily happened today to make it so bad, but I just feel horrible. It's not even noon yet and I've already talked to half of the people in my big family, gotten in a fight with my sister, had someone tell me to be happy because they want only happy people around today, come home and bawled my eyes out for no reason. This morning has been just so tiring. So now I am back home in my pajamas and a dark room, listening to happy music to try and shake off my funk. Hence why this song. It makes me happy and listening to it I can already feel my nerves untangling so I can relax. I've found a couple happy mixes with upbeat songs today too so they have been added to my list of songs to show you (now holding 150 songs) so eventually you'll get those ones. For now though, just enjoy this one and try to be extra happy today for me.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 43

What's Up? So today's song is I Want You by Savage Garden.

Okay, this is a song that was released a few years after I was born. When I first heard the song, it was done by one of the a capella groups I like. So naturally I thought it was an awesome song and wanted to share it with you guys, but I figured I'd give the band their recognition. So this is an Australian group, and the song went big all over the world. I can't really explain why I like this song, you'll just have to listen to it. If you're curious about the group I had listened to, it was Hoja. They would perform for all the music kids when we went on our biannual trip to the Nelson music festival in high school. So I saw them twice live, and bought all the CD's that I could. I'm a choir kid, what do you want from me. Their version of that song isn't on YouTube, but look up the other covers they do if you're curious.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 42

Hey guys. So today's song is This Is What It Feels Like by Armin Van Buuren ft. Trevor Guthrie.

So obviously this one is a very popular mainstream song. I've kind of fallen out of the alternative music scene in the city because I was so busy with school so I've been trying to find lesser known music to share with you guys, but it's taking awhile. I can say though that some mainstream stuff doesn't suck. I mean this is clearly a pop song meant best for drinking and dancing in a club, but it's also nice for driving down the highway on a sunny day with sunglasses on and your hair blowing in the wind. I guess maybe it's that the music isn't getting better I'm just more tolerant of it...I don't know you guys be the judge of it. Tell me what you think.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 41

Hello! So today's song is I Want You To by Weezer.

I absolutely adore this song. Weezer has such great tracks and it is always surprising when they do. I don't know why I still get surprised by it, I mean Island In The Sun was iconic. And now there is this one. It's so happy and fun. This is definitely being added to my songs for a bad day mix on my ipod. It's a mix for music to fix a bad day, so it's all the songs that truly make me happy inside. I also love the concept in the video, how he gets the girl and then realizes that she hurt his friends and basically dumps her ass right then and there. Bros before hoes in action. Anyway I don't wanna talk long, but seriously check this one out.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 40

Hi. So today's song is Better Than Her by Matisse ft. Akon.

So this girl's real name is Brittany Smith and she released Better Than Her in 2010. This version is a remix done that added Akon to it.  She actually used to be part of a duo with her twin sister, but I guess that didn't work out. Maybe this song is a dig at her sister because she managed to do things without her. I'm torn on the concept of sibling groups. I mean sometimes it works out really well, but speaking from experience with my own sister we would probably kill each other. Half the time we're just goofing around, but the other half we hate each other and finds the stuff the other one is doing annoying. I don't have a brother so I can't speak on the gender difference, but I imagine it would still be the same for boys...maybe just less petty. Anything this is today's song so check it out.

Peace.

Monday, June 2, 2014

Year 3, Day 39

Yo. Today's song is Call Me A Hole by Nine Inch Nails and Carly Rae Jepson.

Okay so this song is a mash-up, but it's one that is kind of strange and I love it. So it's a mixture of Head Like A Hole by Nine Inch Nails and Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson. As you can guess the base music is Call Me Maybe and then Nine Inch Nails is the lyrics. They are so different as far as genres go, and yet it kind of works....it's intriguing. I figured I'd share it with you guys and at the same time give props to whoever decided that these songs should mix. I guess some radio hosts have heard this and have started playing it, but I assume most of you have never before so check it out.

Peace.

Year 3, Day 38

Hey guys. Today I give you Live In This City by Dragonette.

I love this song, it's a great song, but I want to talk to you about the music video. I remember when I first saved this song to show it to you guys. I was showing Sammy the video because it's so strange! First of all: good job for rockin' the denim look. It makes me think of my childhood when everyone wore legit denim to the stampede instead of what I refer to as whore denim. Also the white gloves and shoes make the outfits so much better. Oh the dancing!! I now have a wish to walk around my city dancing like that. Considering there isn't a lot of extravagance to this music video it would be pretty easy to recreate....I think there should be a movement. All the fans redoing the video and putting them on YouTube. I'm not entirely sure what's happening in this video. Does everyone turn into a drag queen looking person when she sees them? Is it an epidemic like zombies? Crazy makeup zombies? Whatever it is I like it. Especially the ending when he guys are done up and looking fabulous. If you have a few minutes check it out because it's so weird it works.

Peace.
