Year 7, Day 365

Morning! Today's song is Gonna Be Okay by Brent Morgan.

Well we did it guys, we finally made it to the end of the year. And I know I probably said the same thing at the end of last year, but this year has been a doozy. Truly the best thing this year can do at this point is end for me because I reached my limit of tolerance for tragedy and idiocy and annoyance about 7 months ago. I struggled with actually finishing the blog this year, I didn't take a long enough break between this one and the last one, so this time I will be taking a prolonged break from it. I've got a lot of real life duties to take care of, lots of projects sitting at about 90% complete that I need to just get finished and off my plate, and adulty things to cross off my checklist that will involve considerably more effort. But as this song hints at, I'm trying to go out on a positive and remember that everything will be okay, I just gotta keep going. So I hope you guys, whatever struggles you're dealing with too, can do the same and internalize the message of this year's last song. Take a few minutes and just breathe to this one, and let it give you the reassurance you need to keep plugging along. It's been a hell of a ride guys, but I'll see you next year.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 364

Morning! Today's song is You Are Loved by Matthew Mole.

Matthew Mole is a South African singer active since 2011, and is actually the most recent find for me. He released an independent EP in 2001 before going on to win a music competition and leading to him getting signed. He released another EP in 2012, followed by his debut album in 2013. His second album came out in 2016 and, like his first album, was nominated for a bunch of awards. He released another album in 2019, then had a very busy year in 2020 where he released three EPs and yet another album. So there's lots by him if you're interested.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 363

Morning! Today's song is Broken by Jonah Kagen.

Just like yesterday, this guy is new new to the industry, with his Facebook page only active since 2019 and his YouTube channel active since this year. According to YouTube he does music along with attending university, so he's got a lot going on. He's been releasing singles since 2020, so there isn't too much to check out yet, but I'm sure he'll continue releasing songs as he goes. So keep an eye out.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 362

Morning! Today's song is Changes by Hayd.

So this guy is a true newbie in the industry. His YouTube channel went live in 2018 and he released some singles in 2019 before this song came out in 2020 and went viral. He's also apparently very popular on TikTok, but unlike my sister I don't use it ever. But if you do then maybe you've heard of him. As of now he has released his first EP, so go check that out if you like what you hear.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 361

Morning! Today's song is If You Ever Forget That You Love Me by Isak Danielson.

Isak Danielson is a Swedish singer active since 2012, and got his break on the X Factor Sweden, where he came in third place. He released a single on YouTube in 2013 before officially releasing it a year later with a record label. He then released two EP's, one in 2015 and another in 2016. In 2017 one of his songs got featured in SYTYCD, earning more exposure, and then his debut album was released in 2018. A third EP came out in 2019, and another album in 2020, and then one of each so far this year. So there's plenty for you to check out if this is your thing.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 360

Morning! Today's song is Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's.

These guys have been around since 1997 and are currently made up of Tom Higgenson, Tim Lopez, Mike Retondo, and De'Mar Hamilton with past members being Dave Tirio, Steve Mast and Ken Fletcher. It started as a trio with Higgenson, Tirio, and Fletcher before they decided to add a fourth member, with Mast joining the ranks. Higgenson ended up crashing their van, braking multiple vertebrae and had to relearn to walk. The experience changed him and how he wrote, which led to song that had more meaning to him and an overall shift into how seriously the band took their music. They released two albums independently in 2000 and 2002 before gaining the attention of a label and adding Hamilton to the band. Their next album came out in 2005 which is where this song is from. They released five more albums since then, with the most recent from 2018. The only news since then was Tirio's departure from the group in 2020, so I guess we'll wait and see what comes next.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 359

Morning! Today's song is Awake by Secondhand Serenade.

Photo by: Beyond The Barricade Photography

Secondhand Serenade is an American rock band active since 2004 and is the brainchild of John Vesely. He started out as a bassist in bands for eight years before switching to acoustic guitar and releasing his debut album in 2005. This is the title song off of that. He got a lot of success through MySpace before getting signed, and having the album re-released in 2007. Since then, there has been one EP released in 2011 and four more albums, starting in 2008, with the most recent released in 2014. In 2015 he proposed to his girlfriend, and in 2016 formed a duo with her called The Rebel Roads before getting married in 2017. He released a remix version of Awake the album that year, but there hasn't been any news since so I don't know if he's still technically active or not.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 358

Morning! Today's song is Look After You by The Fray.

These guys are a rock band from Colorado that formed in 2002. A lot of the guys had actually started out in worship bands, which are Christian groups that play at worship. They released an EP in 2002 that got a lot of local fame, but they still struggled with getting into the actual music industry. They kept trying though, getting their songs played on radio stations until finally getting signed in 2004. They've released four albums, the first in 2005 and the most recent from 2014. They released a greatest hits album in 2016, then as of 2019 the band is on hiatus so we'll have to wait and see what happens next.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 357

Morning! Today's song is A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.

Christina Perri is an American singer active since 2010 when her debut single was used on SYTYCD thanks to a friend giving the track to a choreographer. She got signed and released her first EP all in 2010, then her debut album came out in 2011. She went on tour then released a Christmas EP in 2012. She released a song from her upcoming album in 2013 before the album got released in 2014 She toured twice after that, once as the opener for Demi Lovato. In 2016 she was featured on a song with Lindsey Stirling, then released an album in 2019 of lullabies dedicated to her daughter. Since then she's been doing the mom thing, and has had some personal problems on that front which I'm not going into, but I wish her well and will be waiting for her return.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 356

Morning! Today's song is You're Exhausting by Beth Crowley.

Beth Crowley got her start in 2011 when she posted a video on YouTube that went viral. After that she started focusing on original music, releasing a song on YouTube in 2013 that was based on the Cassandra Clare novel series. She has done many different songs inspired by fiction and has released two EPs and a full length album. She's also writing her own novel so she's still going strong. If you're curious about other book-based songs, go check her out. You never know what you'll find.

Peace.

This song was their debut single released in 2017, followed by them getting signed and releasing an EP. In 2018 was when this song started to get huge, topping the charts. They released their debut album the same year, then went on two tours through 2018 and 2019. In 2020 they released their second album and opened for 5 Seconds of Summer on their tour. They've been the featured artist on some tracks in 2021 so they're still active as a group if you want to check them out.

Year 7, Day 354

Morning! Today's song is Fuck You by Lily Allen.

Lily Allen is a British singer active since 1998. Since I've featured her multiple times I'll make this a quick overview. She got signed in 2002 but got dropped before releasing any music and became a florist. She came back to music in 2004, working with a production duo then got signed again in 2005. Her Myspace demos got her a lot of attention, before she released her debut album in 2006. Since then she's released three more albums and has won some major awards, including a Grammy, a BRIT award, and three Ivor Novellos. As of 2021, she's starring in a West End play so she's still around and you can maybe see her if you're in England.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 353

Morning! Today's song is Money On My Mind by UPSAHL.

This is Taylor Cameron Upsahl, an American singer active since 2014. She made an EP when she was 14 (in 2012) then released her first album in 2015. She continued to self release albums until getting signed in 2018. She then released her official debut EP in 2019, followed by another in 2020. Her debut album with the label came out this year, so she's still relatively new, but hopefully you check her out.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 352

Morning! Today's song is Now by Olivia O'Brien.

Since I featured a 90's/2000's jam yesterday I though this would be a good follow because some of the looks she's rocking in this video are textbook for that era and I find it hilarious. So Olivia O'Brien is an American singer active since 2013. She posted a cover she did of a Gnash song on SoundCloud, which gained his attention, and he asked her to record on of her original songs with him, released in 2016. Its success led to her being signed. She consistently released singles through 2016, then released her first EP in 2017. She has two more EPs, one from 2019 and one from 2020. She also released her debut album in 2019, and has since released another this year, with a part two of it in the works. So go check all that out.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 351

Morning! Today's song is Lose My Breathe by Destiny's Child.

Photo from: Pete Sekesan

So Destiny's Child was a girl group active from 1990 until 2006. Originally they were called Girl's Tyme and was made up of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, Támar Davis, and Nikki and Nina Taylor. After a failed run on Star Search, Beyonce's father took over as manager and cut Davis and the Taylor sister, bringing in LeToya Luckett. The groups name changed a lot, before finally settling on Destiny's Child in 1996, the same year they got signed. The line-up as we know of them showed up in 2000, when after raising concerns over disproportionate earnings, Roberson and Luckett were replaced with Farrah Franklin (who only stayed for a few months) and Michelle Williams. The group had five albums over the course of their career starting in 1998, with the last one released in 2004. After the group ended, each one went solo, so you can check out their other stuff if you're interested.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 350

Morning! Today's song is I Got What You Want by Gloria Tells.

Gloria Tells is Sanne Stenbeck, a singer/songwriter from Sweden. She does solo stuff, obviously, and also is the lead singer in a duo called House Of Say and writes songs for other people. She's been active since at least 2018 as a solo artist, releasing two EPs and an album in 2018. She released another EP in 2019, then two more in 2020. Her most recent album was released in 2020, but she's released a couple singles this year as well so she's still going strong. And if you want to check out more from you, you can look into the duo. Enjoy.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 349

Morning! Today's song is Until The End by Dirty South featuring Joe Gil.

So Dirty South is the stage name for Dragan Roganović, a Serbian/Yugolsavian DJ active since 2004 and based out of Australia. He made tracks on his home computer and sent them worldwide, earning him a deal with a label in 2005. Since then he's made four albums, the first in 2013 and the most recent in 2018, and many popular singles from 2006 and onward. He's also released two EPs, one in 2006 and the other in 2019. He's been nominated for a bunch of awards, including two ARIAs, and has placed in the Top 100 DJs list every year since 2007. For Joe Gil I don't have an official bio to go off of, all I know is he's an American singer. He's been around since at least 2007 because that's when his album came out, but other than that I got nothing. So if you guys have some more info let me know. Until then, enjoy the song.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 348

Morning! Today's song is Mama by Jonas Blue featuring William Singe.

Jonas Blue is Guy James Robin, an English singer active since 2015 when he released a house cover of a Tracy Chapman song which became a big hit. His next singles were released on a label in 2016, then the song I'm featuring today came out in 2017, along with some other singles. His debut album came out in 2018, then he released more singles in 2019, and a compilation album in 2020. He's been releasing more songs this year, so maybe there will be another album in the near future. William Singe is an Australian singer active since 2011. He auditioned for the X Factor, and was eventually put into a group by the judges called The Collective, which came in third place in 2012. They were signed and released a mini-album the same year, then he left the group in 2015. He started doing a bunch of covers on Facebook and YouTube which made him a viral sensation, before getting signed. His debut single came out in 2017 which he followed up with this song. Since then there hasn't been much officially, but I bet he's still doing stuff on YouTube so go check him out.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 347

Morning! Today's song is Happiness by McFly.

I've talked about McFly enough times that you should all know them by now, so instead I'm just going to throw a little love over Tom's way today since I can't actually vote for him. He's currently on Strictly Come Dancing, which is basically the British equivalent of Dancing With the Stars. Despite having to quarantine and losing a week, he's actually been doing pretty good. He seems stiff in posture, but that's something he can hopefully fix. I like watching Strictly more than Dancing With because they tend to actually teach them real moves and some dance theory instead of just saying memorize this routine and then never do it again. There are exceptions to every rule, each professional dancer is different, but that's just how I feel about it. You are more than welcome to disagree. Anyway if you like McFly or dancing and are British, maybe go throw a vote his way for me if you like what he's doing.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 346

Morning! Today's song is Maybe Don't by Maisie Peters featuring JP Saxe.

She released a couple singles in 2019, followed by another EP, before one of her songs got used for the Birds of Prey album in 2020. In 2021 she switch labels and released her debut album, and has also been writing a soundtrack album for an Apple TV series. Jp Saxe is Jonathan Percy Saxe, a Canadian musician active since 2012. He's got songwriting credits on a couple tracks before he started releasing singles himself in 2017. His debut album came out in 2018, which was followed by some more singles in 2019 and album EP in 2020. His first album was released this year so you can check that out if you're curious.

Year 7, Day 345

Morning! Today's song is CWJBHN by Jake Scott and Josie Dunne.

I can't find a lot of information on Jake Scott, so I'm just going to infer things based on the information I did find. So he's been around since at least 2013, which is when the earliest music of his is dated on Spotify. That was an EP in 2013, with another that was released in 2020 and another in 2021. He also has an album the was released in 2020 so clearly he spent the lockdown working hard. This song is from 2020, and was made with Josie Dunne. Josie first signed with a publishing company in 2014, before moving to Nashville and working with Atlantic Records releasing her debut single in 2018. She followed that with an EP the same year, then spent 2019 releasing singles and two more EPs in 2020 and 2021. So both these guys are kind of getting into the steady music release business, which means there should be lots for you to find.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 344

Morning! Today's song is Bite My Tongue by The Beach.

The moniker this guy has chosen makes it hard to find him versus other groups, and even on the official sites I did look at there wasn't really any info to find, and honestly I'm kind of busy right now so instead I'm just gonna give you a little update on what I'm doing so you know why I'm busy. So Christmas is coming up, my family always does a Christmas draw and we usually do names at Thanksgiving then make lists right away and get shopping over with before the rush. I'm the one who coordinates everything so I've been having a lot of conversations about Christmas, presents, wants, needs, suggestions, etc. My mom and I were talking about how her boyfriend like Star Wars, so I showed her a thing I had been working on for myself and she wanted to do a poster of it for him. Then the idea snowballed and now I'm attempting to make three Star Wars themed posters by hand for him with my subpar art skills. I'm excited though because I tend to like projects and this gives me an outlet. I have the general ideas figured out now it's just about implementation, so wish me luck and send some good vibes that I'll actually finish on time. So I'm gonna keep working and you guys can enjoy the song.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 343

Morning! Today's song is Not Your Summer by The Academic.

The Academic is an Irish band active since 2013 and made up of Craig Fitzgerald, Matthew Murtagh, Stephen Murtagh, and Dean Gavin. They formed while they were in school together. They released an EP in 2015 and played a sold out show, the popularity leading to them being selected to represent Ireland at the Eurosonic Festival. And that led to them playing a lot of shows around Europe. They released a single in 2017 followed by their debut album in 2018 before spending the rest of the year on tour. They got nominated for an Album of the Year award in 2019 and were signed to a label in 2020. Since then they've released some EPs so look for those if you're interested.

Year 7, Day 342

Morning! Today's song is No Time For Toxic People by Imagine Dragons.

Photo by: Drew de F Fawkes

These guys are a pop rock group active since 2008 and currently made up of Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman. I always wondered about the band name and it's apparently an anagram for a phrase known only by the band members. There was a lot of member shuffling before they released two EPs in 2010, followed quickly by another in 2011. They were signed the same year, then lucked out by replacing a band who couldn't perform for a huge audience boosting their fan base by a large margin. Then they kind of blew up. Their debut came out in 2012 and obviously got them international fame. They toured for awhile, then released a live album in 2013, followed by more touring while working on another album. That one was released in 2015, then a tour followed before the band took a hiatus in 2016. It lasted less than a year before the band was hyping their fans up for new stuff and those singles came out in 2017. They released their fourth album in 2018 then did some performances and singles through 2019. Reynolds then took a break to focus on parenting, so the group was mostly gone through 2020 before returning with another album in 2021. So go check that out when you have time.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 341

Morning! Today's song is I Don't Want To Be by Gavin DeGraw.

Photo from: Frog Brother

Gavin DeGraw is an American singer active since 1998. He moved to New York and eventually got signed, working on his debut album that came out in 2003 which is where this song is from. Fun Fact: he actually references his parents jobs in the lyrics. He did some appearances on One Tree Hill, who used his song as the theme song, before releasing his second album in 2008. He also released an EP the same year. Since then, he's released four more albums, the first in 2009 and the most recent from 2016. He also opened The National Underground, which was a music venue with his brother. There hasn't been anything since then, but he's still listed as active so I guess we'll wait and see.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 340

Morning! Today's song is Reptilia by The Strokes.

The Strokes are a rock band active since 1998 and made up of Julian Casablancas, Nikolai Fraiture, Albert Hammond Jr, Fabrizio Moretti, and Nick Valensi. It started with Casablancas, Valensi, and Moretti playing together, then they brought in the other two. They started off playing in the Manhattan club scene, then made a demo EP in 2000, released in 2021 and caused a record label bidding war. Their debut album came out in 2001, followed by another in 2003, which is when this song came out. They were going to do a live album in 2004, but the recording quality wasn't good enough. Their next album came out in 2005, which was a little different from the other albums. In 2006 they played a bunch of festivals in Europe before doing tours around the world. The next album was supposed to be released in 2009, but instead got pushed to 2011. Their next album was released in 2013, followed by them doing some performances through 2014, then going on a European tour in 2015. The released an EP in 2016, followed by a festival tour in 2017. They took an unofficial two year hiatus before doing some performances in 2019, then releasing their next album in 2020. So they are still around to check out.

Year 7, Day 339

Morning! Today's song is I Need Some Wine and You, You Need to be Nicer by The Cardigans.

The Cardigans are a Swedish bad, active since 1992. The band is made up of Lars-Olof Johansson, Bengt Lagerberg, Nina Persson, Magnus Sveningsson, and Peter Svensson. The group was formed by Peter and Magnus who brought in the others. They recorded a demo which led to them getting signed, with the debut album coming out, first in Japan and Sweden in 1994, and internationally in 1997. They released their second album in 1995 internationally, followed by their third in 1996. They took a bit of a hiatus in 1998 while the members did solo projects, and their songs were used in pop culture and a compilation album was released. They came back together is 2002 to do a new album, releasing it in 2003, featuring a new sound. They released an iTunes album and another regular album in 2005. In 2006 they went back on an extended hiatus, before getting an offer to come back in 2012. Peter didn't want to participate, but he gave the others his blessing to do it without him, so they invited Oskar Humlebo to take his spot. Since then they've spent most of that time touring so they're still around, and who knows what we'll see later on.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 338

Morning! Today's song is Girl Who Cried Wolf by Ashe.

Ashe is Ashlyn Wilson whose been active since 2017. She started out singing a demo in Nashville, eventually getting signed to a label called Mom+Pop. The 'e' on her moniker was added to pay homage to Carole King, whose 'e' is also not in her given name. She's written a couple songs for other artists, including Demi Lovato, and has been the featured singer on a number of tracks. The one she collaborated on with Shaun Frank earned her a Juno nomination in 2017. She did some touring with other artists before releasing her debut EP in 2018. She had another EP in 2019, then had her music featured in some pretty big pop culture things through 2020 before releasing her debut album this year. So if you like this, you should go look that up.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 337

Morning! Today's song is Zombie covered by Damned Anthem.

So Damned Anthem is a duo made up of Adam Dearborn and James Norman, who collaborate with other artists on their tracks, explaining why it is a woman's voice in this song, despite the group being men. They've done a lot of covers of stuff, and their music has been featured in all kinds of things, including a bunch of TV shows. The original song is by the Cranberries, and was released in 1994. The song was written by the lead singer in honor of two victims of the Warrington bombing that happened in England in 1993. It was one event from the 30 year conflict in Northern Ireland, where the Irish Republican Army was trying to get British Forces out of Ireland. There had been 10,000 bomb attacks, and Delores O'Riordan (the lead singer of the Cranberries) had been nearby on tour when the bombing happened. Being Irish herself, she was particularly devastated by the innocents being killed in the name of nationalism, and so this song came to be. Knowing the backstory gives a new meaning to the song for me, so I hope it helps you guys appreciate it more as well.

Peace.

He releases his first album in 2013, earning himself some newcomer awards. In 2014 he sang on a Fred V & Grafix song and created his own mixtape. His second album came out in 2015, followed by a third in 2018. Since then he's released two EPs, one in 2019 and another in 2020 so check those out if you're interested.

Peace.

Year 7, Day 335

Morning! Today's song is Ride Or Die by The Knocks featuring Foster The People.

Photo from: swimfinfan

The Knocks is a duo made up of Ben Ruttner and James Patterson who've been active since 2010. The name of the group is in reference to how many times neighbors came knocking complaining about the noise. Their first single came out in 2010 followed by the an EP in 2011. They released some more singles throughout 2012 and 2013, collaborating with some other artists, followed by a slew of more in 2014 that would make up their next EP released in 2015. They did more collaborations, and helped produce Wyclef Jean's album before releasing their debut album in 2016. They released a second album in 2018, and have been doing EP's throughout their career since, and have continued to work with other artists on their albums. This song is not the only one they've done with Foster The People, there was another in 2020, so check the one out too if you're interested. So Foster The People have been around since 2009 and are currently made up of Mark Foster, Sean Cimino, Isom Innis, and Mark Pontius, with one past member being Jacob Fink. Over their career they've released three albums, the most recent from 2017, and have collaborated with a number of artists on other songs like this one. They've also been nominated for and won awards, and have kept momentum ever since become a viral success in 2010. I've featured them before so I wont go more in depth than that, but check them out if you're curious because they're great.

Peace.
