Year 2, Day 61

Hey. Today's song is Soft View by Cannon Bros.

These two rock. Obviously I think the song is amazing, and I wish I had talent like them, but lets put that on hold for five seconds. The filming of this video is brilliant. It's so discreetly epic. Having the background of where they are with the two shots of what each of them is doing looks really professional. I was so focused on the cool shots that I almost missed the fact that they switched instruments. I thought maybe there was a third person in the video because I saw the girl singing, but then that didn't make sense, so I went back to the beginning of the video and saw that she was originally on drums. I felt kind of dumb for missing that detail, but whatever. They organized it in the way that it wouldn't be obvious and that makes it one of the best videos I've seen. So check these guys out, they are remarkable on all levels.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 60

Hi. So today we have The Dove by Vince Vaccaro.

So much love. This sounds amazing, the beat is easy to follow and makes me bop along. I really shouldn't be bopping because some girl is in the study desk beside me, but OH WELL! If she doesn't like it she can move. This is yet another artist discovered because of the fact that they're coming to The Gateway. It's good and bad having such remarkable musicians performing at school. Good because I get to hear all of them and widen my musical tastes, but bad because I am lacking in schoolwork to get to go to these concerts. If I fail my classes, I'm blaming it on them booking too many awesome bands....that would be a good way to fail though, better than just sleeping all the time and missing classes. Anyway, check this out!

Peace.

Year 2, Day 59

Hey Everybody. Today's song is Smile by Wide Mouth Mason.

This song is so cool! It makes me happy as soon as it starts playing. These guys are coming to the Gateway too, but I can't make it the night they're playing. It's really upsetting because they seem like they'd put on a good show. Anyway, today seems like a day where we all need a little extra reminder to smile, so you get this song.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 58

Hello. So today I give you Sweet Heroin by Broken Down Suitcase.

At my school, they have a lot of bands come and play in the bar. When I want to find new bands, I go through the list of shows. That's how I found these guys. I like it. The video here is very raw, just an acoustic version of their song, but the fact that they sound so good when it's unedited is brilliant. The voices mesh well together and you can tell they love what they do, so check them out.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 57

Hey. Today's song is Run With Us by Lisa Lougheed.

This song screams eighties, I love it. It was never released in the US, only independently in Canada. Another show of our awesome artists. I found this through Facebook, because a friend of mine posted it on her feed. She has a blog too actually. I'm not sure what it is though, I'll ask her later. Anyway, I was in an eighties mood so now you should be too, hopefully.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 56

Hey. Today's song is Demons by Imagine Dragons.

This is an incredible band. Most people know them for another song, but I chose to showcase this song because of how powerful it is. How it starts out so quiet, and then the harmonies come in. That sets it up so beautifully, and just when they want to show the progression of emotions the instruments come in strong. Music is so much more entertaining when it follows a story. It's something I learned in choir. You have to let the emotions carry you through the song, because those few minutes are a story, with a beginning, middle and end. Close your eyes, and follow the music.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 55

Hello. Today's song is Cough Syrup by Young The Giant.

Amazing. That is the only word to describe what you will hear when you click that link. Of all the songs my sister has shown me, this is the best. It makes no sense, and the video is strange, but I love it. It's easy to sing along to and rock out to. Plus you can share it with anyone. What I mean is that you're not going to show your grandmother Nicki Minaj's music, but you could show her this. It's a beautiful song, that isn't about sex and has no profanity in it. Pure Perfection...

Peace.

Year 2, Day 54

Hi. Today you get What We Had by The Drums.

This song had me from the beginning. Being the choir buff I am, I love guys that can hit those high notes. It makes me gush, and by starting the song out with that they guaranteed me being a fan. Even if you don't care about that stuff, you should give them a listen. It's a different sound than you hear on the radio, and different is good. It's unique without being too out there as to freak you out. Trust me, it's cool.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 53

Hey. So today's song is To Be With You by The Honey Trees.

Like yesterday, this is another song that helps me compartmentalize everything. I don't know why, it just makes me feel free, as if someone lifted a wait off my shoulders...even if it's only for a few minutes. This band is amazing, they have true talent because it's obvious how much they care about their songs. I love it and because of that, it is my song of the day.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 52

Hello. Today's song is You Already Know by Bombay Bicycle Club.

When I'm feeling really stressed about everything, like today, I find music that makes me calm down. Mission accomplished with this band. I found these guys one day when I was at school. All the silent study spots were full so I was sitting at the lunch tables trying to do work while everyone chatted. I was tired of my ipod music and so I went to YouTube and hopped on a playlist, finding this. I'm telling you, doing homework and writing out stuff is so much easier to do when listening to music like this. It keeps you focused. I know with school being back, a lot of us need to be focused, so I give this to you.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 51

Hi. Today I give you The Time To Sleep by Marble Sounds.

I'm in the good part of YouTube. Where pop idols don't exist and you find awesome bands who play music simply because it's what they love to do. For instance, these guys. There's not much I can tell you about this song, it's one that you have to listen to yourself and decide how you feel. So just trust me, and check this out.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 50

Hey guys. Today's song is Nothing Like You And I by The Perishers.

Today was a weird day. I ended up being a part of the Calgary Corporate Challenge. It's a competition between all these different companies and you're on the team of the corporation you work for. One of the guys had to bow out, so I found myself a member of the UFA/Wholesale Sports Foosball team....yeah. Putting aside the fact that I can't play Foosball at all, I said yes. Why? Because one of my teammates was the guy I like. Spend five hours with him while making a fool out of myself? I decided yes. We didn't win and I did suck in the first game, but I did well in the second, and learned a lot about him. Anyway, overall this is a really good song. This song may seem a strange choice for today since it's so slow, but it's the message that I like. Listen to the lyrics and you'll see that it fits pretty well.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 49

Hello. So today's song is Ho Hey by The Lumineers.

So much love for this. Even if you've never heard it before, they make it easy for everyone to jam, thanks to the beat. The music makes you want to bop along, which is usually good, but not when I'm in class listening to this haha. The music video pretty much explains what I think you should do while listening to this. There must always be confetti. Check it out, you'll become a fan.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 48

Hey Guys. So today's song is Tongue Tied by GROUPLOVE.

This video makes no sense, but I enjoy that it's backwards. Well, watching it looks like going to a show by this band would be fun. The music screams party, and I guess I'm not the only one who thought that. It's just something fun to listen to, makes you feel like the weekend is here, so it's a good song to share with you.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 47

Hi. Today I give you Awkward by San Cisco.

I love this. First off, nerdy singers are so great. Mostly because they are nerds so they like to rock out and it's enjoyable to watch. Then, a female drummer. Yes! I love that there are girls out there proving that it's not just a guy thing. The conversation setting of this song makes me smile. It's so fun. There aren't many songs where the singers talk to each other throughout it, so this song is unique. I think it's really cool and you should too. Also, note the other members of the band being hilariously creepy in the background. It's so funny.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 46

Hey, so today is Steal His Heart by Emily and The Woods.

Like yesterday, this is another new band. With another pretty, feel good song. Her voice is perfect for the genre and I love listening to it. The video to go with this song is so adorable. When she makes him chase her on the bike, I figured he just thought she was insane, but the fact that he chased the bus, the train and found her on the beach shows how much he cares for her. It touching without being overly gushy. The perfect combination. So give the song a listen, and check out the video. I think you'll like it.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 45

Hello. So today's song is Bloom by The Paper Kites.

This is a new band for me, I just found them while sifting through YouTube. So far I'm happy I found them. This song is so pretty, especially with the guitar in the beginning. It draws you in. For once, the video for a song goes along with the sound of the music. Its a soft song, but a happy one and the video brings back childhood memories of the can on the string, combining it with a love story. The way everything fits together is just really beautiful in my opinion, so I thought I'd share it.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 44

Hello. Today's song is The Walk by Mayer Hawthorne.

This song Sammy showed me, and it's so awesome. It reminds me a little of the jazz song I showed you, in the way that you actively listen to it. I always end up stopping whatever I'm doing and just listen to it, which is saying a lot for me since I live my life trying to multitask to save time. This is the college kid in me that wants to do everything, but there is only so many hours in a day. Anyway, I love him. He looks so nerdy and then BAM! That voice hits you and blows your mind...at least that's what happened to me. See, Sammy had tried to show me this awhile ago and I wouldn't let her because I didn't think it would be good. I'm happy she forced it on me, because this is my new favorite song. Seriously, go listen to this one.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 43

Hey. Today I give you You're Not Stubborn by Two Door Cinema Club.

This song is so happy. It makes you want to dance and sing along even when you don't know the words. I showcased a song by this band in the first 365, and it was good, but seemed a little rough. I retract that thought now, they are not rough at all. These guys are just doing the thing they love, and are great at it. So give them a listen, and if you're curious, go find my post from last time.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 42

Hi. Today's song is Call Me by Shinedown.

This song is so amazing. I can't believe how much I love it. How it starts with the piano automatically makes me prepare for a girl singing a sad song, because I obviously listen to too much stuff like that, but then his voice comes in and it's too beautiful for words. Anytime this song plays I stop what I'm doing and listen to it. It has that power over me. I just am in love with this song, everything about it so check it out.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 41

Hey Guys. Today I give you Pimpin All Over The World by Ludacris ft Bobby V.

This song is ridiculous, but so good. I found it again when pulling out all my old CD's. It's surprising to rediscover things and find out you still know the words to it. Anna had been laughing at me as I sang along...because the words coming out of my mouth sound so wrong. This is from one of those mix CD's that they made, probably the Big Shiney Tunes one. Growing up with those is probably how I ended up with broad music tastes. It's just a really fun song, so check it out.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 40

Yo. Today's song is The First One by Boys Like Girls.

This is a pretty song. All the components mesh together so well and make it enjoyable to listen to and sing along to.  Most stuff from this band is, actually. In high school, everyone was into these guys, but I had never heard their stuff. Finally, I gave them a chance and found a new constant in my life. I suggest you do the same, because it can really open you up.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 39

Hey. So today's song is Be As by Prozzak.

This song is a good message. Plain and simple. It's all about the lyrics. I respect this so much more than the music of today as far as the message goes. This is what kids ahould be taught, to respect each other; not have them constantly bombarded by songs about drugs, sex, and illegal activities like they are now. As "forgiving" as our world seems, it's really not. People are so terrible to each other and are too harsh. Teach kids respect from a young age and maybe the world will not be as bad. Use this song as a tool to make the world better in any way you can.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 38

Hello. Today I give you What A Little Moonlight Can Do by Emilie-Claire Barlow.

This song I found when I stole my sister's music. We have different tastes, and she usually doesn't like mine, but I love seeing what she listens to. It's easy to find stuff that I've never heard of before and then I'm able to share it with my friends. It's a big circle until everyone knows and then we are all obsessed. Now this I will warn you, is very different from what I've shown earlier, but in a good way. Welcome to the jazz part of YouTube. Jazz is possibly one of the funnest genres of music. It's where every song can be changed and you're encouraged to make it your own. These are songs that have scatting and sax solo's, with crazy tempos and fun rifts. Music that you can actively listen to and not be aware of how they'll continue. I love that it's not as predictable as pop music. Emilie- Claire is a master of jazz. She's perfect for this style and is a great starting point to begin your travels into the jazz world. Your welcome.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 37

Hi. Today's song is Every Other Time by LFO.

This is an old song, as you can probably tell from the video, but I still like to listen to it. You know what I miss the most about 90's music? No matter what they were talking about in the song, most music was upbeat. You just felt good listening to it. I realize now how old I'm getting when I can say "back in my day." I mean, back in my day we had blockbuster. Back in my day, there were no ipods. Back in my day, all the members of this band were alive. The lead singer of LFO actually died from leukemia is 2010. So this is a sort of tribute to him. He made my life happy, and that was something I needed. I don't care if you guys like 90's pop or not, just check out this song.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 36

Hey everybody. Today's song is Party Hard by Beenie Man.

This is from the Blue Crush CD and played on my ipod while I was riding the train. It makes me feel so cool listening to it, with it's reggae sound. It took a great amount of self control to not dance on the C-train. I didn't want to scare people...which me dancing definitely would have. This song is so underrated for how good it is. No one knows it, and I only found it because I like looking for movie soundtracks. So I'm hoping to amp up this song a little bit by putting a shout out on here. So listen to it, share the song with your friends and get your party on.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 35

Hey. Today's song is On Paper by Arkells.

It's very important that this band be for today, because they had a concert today that I went to. At my college as part of the Welcome Back Week, they have bands every night. I have full days during the week so I could only swing one concert, and I chose this one because I love the Arkells and I probably would never get another opportunity to go see them, so I had to go. My friends all suck though, because no one wanted to come. I ended up bringing Hunter, who didn't know who these guys were, but she came anyway because she knew how badly I wanted to go. So in honor of their kickass concert at The Gateway, this is my salute to them.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 34

Sup. Today you get Take A Bow by Rihanna.

Rihanna has a lot of good songs actually. This song in particular I love. It's probably because I can sing this song perfectly. It's in my key so I don't have any trouble with the notes, and you can pour emotion into it easily because it is a very emotional song. I always imagine that if certain things happened in my life, instead of losing my mind I'd sing a song to explain what was happening, what I wanted to say to whoever it was I was thinking about. If a guy cheated on me, I wouldn't go all crazy ex on him and break his stuff...though I think a little public humility like singing this to him in front of a room of strangers would suffice. That's just me though. What would you do?

Peace.

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Year 2, Day 33

Hi. So today's song is Read Between The Lines by KSM.

These guys are kind of like Everlife: also a girl band and also Disney backed. Now I say these guys are Disney backed because the videos I'm showing you are on the Disney YouTube Channel because these songs are used in Disney movies. This band in particular, was actually used in 10 Things I Hate About You TV Show. They did a Cheap Trick cover, which got mixed reviews. I don't mind it. I Want You To Want Me is one of those songs that everyone covers, and I believe it never taints the original. Although their cover is good, I used a song that is purely KSM to introduce you to these guys. So check it out and then if you're up to it, look for the Cheap Trick cover.

Peace.

Year 2, Day 32

Hola. Today I give you Something About The Sunshine by Anna Margaret.

This is a cookie cutter Disney star song, but I like it. It's just so happy! You can probably guess where I found this song based on the movie clips in the music video. Starstruck was not bad. It was a lot better than I expected it to be, though they over exaggerate character types in these movies. Like, the girl started to get annoying, but not as bad as some shows have been. Anyway, give it a listen and tell me what you think.

Peace.
