Jazmine Sullivan is an American singer active since 2003. She was signed when she was 15, recorded a never released album then got dropped. She then did some backup work for Kindred the Family Soul, where she met Missy Elliot. She wrote some songs for other artists before her break out song was released in 2008, followed by her first album, which is where this song is from. It also earned her a Grammy for Best R&B Song, and has become a classic in the genre. She did some guest spots on other people's albums before releasing her next album in 2010. She earned another Grammy nomination for a song of that album, and was named Rising Star of 2010 by Billboard. The next year though she left the music industry saying that she had promised herself to stop when it was no longer fun. She came back in 2015 with a third album, saying that singing was her calling so she really couldn't leave indefinitely. Then she did some work with other artists, including Frank Ocean in 2016 and Pentatonix in 2019. She released a song in 2020 and has an EP in the works for later on. So keep an eye out for that.
