So what exactly is the correct way to cover this song? I remember reading an article not too long ago about the fact that the band dislikes every cover done of this song because people get it wrong. Further explanation is needed. How is it wrong? “Most of the time they syncopate [the chorus] wrong.” Okay so inflections are put on the wrong spots, example? I mean I know how I'd do it from the song and it sounds like what most covers do. According to the brothers, they think Bruno Mars is going to be the only one to get it right. We all know Bruno Mars has ridiculous skills with music so I fully support him doing it, but it still sounds kind of snobbish? Boys...you were tiny children when you made this song and now you're saying only you and this musician will get it correct? Way to alienate your fans by sounding kind of like a tool. And the whole "only R&B singers understand the syncopation" thing, this song is not R&B in the slightest!!! It's pure and simple power pop! I love the song, but it's a little bittersweet for me now since this little information surfaced because it feels like they don't appreciate the fans and the covers that took a lot of time and effort to create. Personal opinion.
