So awhile ago there was this drama on YouTube that some of the creators were making videos addressing and I got so into the conversation that I wrote a huge ass comment about it on one of the videos that was calling out creators for making clickbait vlogs on the topic. I doubt anyone read it, but what I had to say was succinct and I'm very proud of my point so I wanted to share it with you. For context if you so choose here's Markiplier's video on the topic, then KSI's video in response to it.
And now this is what I had to say: I'd like to try and make a point without pissing anybody off.. So I'm not subscribed to any of the three this is dealing with, nor do I watch their videos unless ending up off track from my usual viewing. I watched Markiplier's video and was brought here based on the comments, and objectively watching I think Markiplier's view made a lot more sense. KSI says that Youtube is about making videos. Plain and simple. Then he tells the others to shut the fuck up and do their thing....this is their thing. The fact that they have a channel gives them the right to create whatever content they want regardless of if it's someone screaming at a computer screen for five minutes or discussing a current event like the ever changing conditions of their workplace. This is the equivalent of water cooler drama and there's nothing wrong with displaying your view about it if you choose to. That's the whole basis of Mark's video: the lack of creating content purely based on the creator's desire. Instead there is pressure to create specific genres to aim towards the masses. I assume from the ones I've seen that KSI caters to the niche of badmouthing things he disagrees with.
Mark's second point was about the revolving door of pessimism that subconsciously bullies creators into adhering to the cycle. YouTube is a perfect place to be toxic to others as this video proves and despite the "real world" being like that too it doesn't mean we can't hope to strive to something better. Mark's point was to do what you love as well as what you assume everyone wants, essentially keeping the concept of l'art pour l'art alive and well on Youtube. I haven't watched Pewdipie's take on it and I'm not going to because that's the choice available to me. They create the content they want (whether for views or not), we watch what we want. There is no requirement to watch, just as there is no requirement to bash something we disagree with, but we all have a right to our opinion.
You know the funny thing is Markiplier left a very nice and positive comment on KSI's video which KSI deleted so that should say it all.
