Year 8, Day 365

Hey guys. Today's song is Dead Girl Walking from Heathers: The Musical.

This song marks the official end of all the songs I've had saved for my blog (minus some Christmas ones). I know I usually say this at the end of the year of my blog, but this time I truly don't know if I'll be coming back, which is why I was making such a push to get all the saved songs out there this time. It'll really depend on where my headspace is when and if I come back, and honestly if I even have time. I have so many half finished projects that have been on the backburner and it's about time for me to get those done, so we'll see how much I can accomplish in the next couple months. If this does end up being the end I just want to say thanks for taking this journey with me, I hope you had a good time, and keep putting your listening ears out there and finding new gems.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 364

Hey guys. Today's song is Call Me When You're Sober by Evanescence.

Evanescence is an American band, active since 1995 with the current members being Amy Lee, Tim McCord, Will Hunt, Troy McLawhorn and Emma Anzai with past members including Ben Moody, David Hodges, Will Boyd, Rocky Gray, John LeCompt, Terry Balsamo, and Jen Majura. The group was started by Lee and Moody who met at a Christian youth camp where they were both kind of the odd ones out. They started playing gigs, and selling their EPs, released in 1998, 1999 and 2003 and their early demo from 2000, at their shows which earned some local radio play and built their local following. They were signed in 2001, releasing an album in 2003, followed by another in 2006. After the tour for the album in 2007, Lee took a break, then came back and was writing her next album in 2010, that was released in 2011. In 2014 their label sold their masters, leading to a lawsuit from Lee for their unpaid royalties, and ended with them being dropped from the label. Lee started focusing on solo stuff in 2015, but was also still working with the band, touring in 2016. They released an album in 2017, followed by a tour. They had another hour that was released in 2021 followed by touring in 2022 and 2023 so they're still going strong. This is one of their older songs, but if you're interested you should go check out some of their newer stuff.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 363

Hey guys. Today's song is Again by Flyleaf.

Flyleaf is an American band, active from 2002 until 2015, then again since 2022 with members including James Culpepper, Sameer Bhattacharya, Jared Hartmann, Pat Seals, and  Lacey Sturm with one past member in Kristen May. Originally they went by the name Passerby, releasing three EPs before getting meetings with labels in 2004, leading to them being signed. They started recording another EP, then had to change the band name for legal reasons, and became Flyleaf. They released four albums, with the first released in 2005, and another in 2009 and 2012, with other EPs in between. Sturm stepped down as vocalist from the group in 2012, being replaced by May for their album in 2014. She stayed until 2016, then left the group, followed by the entire group going on a hiatus and focusing on their other interests. Their social media went active again in 2022, featuring Sturm back as the singer, so I guess we'll see what happens next. Until then, enjoy this song.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 362

Hey guys. Today's song is Happier Than Ever sung by Kelly Clarkson.

So I'm featuring Kelly Clarkson today, but the song is actually a cover of a Billie Eilish song. Kelly does a lot of covers, always has and I think she does a great job at them. If I hadn't read the comments I never would have known this wasn't one of her songs, as it's the version I heard first, but you can listen to Billie's version of it here. I will admit to liking Kelly's more, but I would be remiss if I didn't give the original its proper dues. And honestly they both feel like they fit different situations and different moods. So now you can listen to both and check out the differences. Enjoy!

Peace.

Year 8, Day 361

Hey guys. Today's song is Some Kind Of Heaven by Sleeping At Last.

Sleeping At Last is a musical project active since 1999 by Ryan O'Neal, with past members being Chad O'Neal and Dan Perdue. They started out as a locally known band, independently released their album in 2000, and opened for other bands like Plain White T's before earning the attention of Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame. He helped them get signed to a label in 2002. Their next album was released in 2003, followed by a lot of touring. By 2006 they were no longer with a label and released their third album independently. Chad O'Neal left the project in 2008, then the other two released their next album in 2009. In 2010 they started a Yearbook project, releasing a couple songs in an EP each month for a year, going into 2011.  Later in 2011 Dan Perdue also left the project, leaving Ryan as the only member. He released an EP in 2012 followed by the announcement of another series of EPs with four released in 2013, and two released in 2014.  He announced Atlas Year 2, which was more of those EPs in 2015 with one released in 2015, two in 2016, one in 2017, and one in 2019.  He released another EP in 2020. Then in 2021 he announced the Year 3 of the Atlas project would be going on so he's still going. So go check those out if you're curious.

Year 8, Day 359

Hey guys. Today's song is Drama King by Bellah Mae.

Alright no official bio for today because this is new new. Usually I say how long the channel has been up, which this one has been active since 2013, but she has been releasing singles on it since 2022. She's a British musician, and as of now has her music up on YouTube and Spotify, and I don't believe she's been signed yet, but she definitely has the potential to be great in the industry. I've included the acoustic version of this song because I enjoy it the most, but you can also listen to the original one here. So I hope you enjoy and keep an eye out for her in the future.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 358

Hey guys. Today's song is Labour by Paris Paloma.

Paris Paloma is an English singer active since 2020 with the release of debut single, but she had been writing her own songs since she was a preteen. She was signed with a manager in 2021, then signed with a label in 2022. This song was her first official song with the label and based on the theme of it has made a huge impact on people, debuting in the top ten of Billboard’s Hot Alternative Songs. And before she had even finished the song she has been teasing the lyrics on TikTok, so it's not surprising how popular it became once released. I knew immediately when I heard this song that I needed to include it, so I really hope you listen and that it hits for you as much as it did for me.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 357

Hey guys. Today's song is Not All Men by Morgan St Jean.

So Morgan St Jean is an American singer. She's been interested in music her whole life, joining choir in school and then going on to be in a music program at USC. She's been active since 2015 when she released her first single through Spotify and has continued releasing music since. She released an EP in 2022, which included this song. Of this song, she said that when #notallmen was trending on Twitter, she was so offended by it that she went into the studio with an idea and wrote the chorus of this song. She posted it to TikTok, where she originally didn't have any followers, but it ended up going viral overnight. I could explain exactly why the hashtag was so infuriating, but the song really says it all perfectly, so listen to the song and especially the words to understand. It's a very important message, and one I fully support because even when I was in junior high wearing bulky shirts that completely hid my figure and with a fucking backpack, I was being catcalled by creeps within a block of my school. Sure not all men are like that, but it's pretty damn hard to tell the difference these days. She released more stuff since then, including an EP in 2023 so check that out if you're interested.

Peace.

She has continued releasing music under that name up into 2016, before switching to EMELINE with her releases in 2017. Also in 2017 she performed for the Boston Women's March for America, filming the music video for her song Hush in a documentary style with footage from the event. She has continued to release music, with this one being uploaded to her YouTube channel only a year ago, so if you like the sound of it, go check out her other stuff.

Year 8, Day 355

Hey guys. Today's song is Growing Sideways by Noah Kahan.

Noah Kahan is an American musician active since 2017. He started doing music stuff at 17, working with a school friend as a producer which gained the attention of his current manager and the notice of songwriter Dan Wilson, whose worked with a lot of big name artists. After high school he deferred his acceptance to Tulane University in favour of pursuing his music career, getting sign in 2016 and releasing his first single in 2017. He released another single in 2017, to lead up to his EP released early in 2018. In 2019 his released his debut album, which is where this song is from. He released another EP in 2020, followed by his second album in 2021. He did some touring in 2022, along with releasing singles to lead up to his third album released later in the year. I'm sure we'll be seeing more from him soon, since he's been releasing stuff pretty consistently, so keep a lookout for that if his stuff is to your style.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 354

Hey guys. Today's song is The King by Rosendale.

Rosendale is an American musician active since at least 2015. While the only bio I have for him is from his official website, I still don't know much about him, but he has been signed already so I'm sure we'll have a fair amount of music from him coming out. As of now he has released a debut EP from 2017 and two albums, one in 2021 and another in 2022. This is a new find for me, but I really like this song and it eloquently displays what is a toxic generational cycle. Give it a listen and you'll see what I mean.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 353

Hey guys. Today's song is Skinny Skinny by Ashton Irwin.

So Ashton Irwin is an Australian musician active since 2011. Now as some might have already figured out, this is another band member of Seconds of Summer that also now has a solo career. As I mentioned on a different post, the group started with Luke Hemmings posting covers to YouTube, then inviting friends Calum Hood and Michael Clifford to join, with Clifford then reaching out to Ashton Irwin and there the group was formed. As a band they released four albums, the first in 2014 and the most recent from 2020. Irwin's solo career also started in 2020, since with lockdown for the pandemic there were no plans as a band. So he created and released his debut solo album in 2020. He released a single in 2022 so he's still going if you want to look it up. This song specifically deals with body image issues which is nice to see from the male perspective because that is usually undervalued as a problem in society. I hope you check it out.

Peace.

Year 8, Day 352

Hey guys. Today's song is Remember When by Wallows.

Wallows is an American band active since 2017 and made up of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston. They've been a band together since they were teens, but they've gone through a few different names before settling on Wallows and releasing music in 2017. Originally they were known as Join the Band, with a fourth member named Zack Mendenhall, then the three of them changed the name to Feaver and played at Warped tour in 2011. After that they went by The Narwhals, releasing an EP in 2014, then officially became Wallows in 2017, releasing an EP in 2018. They then had an album released in 2019, another EP in 2020, and another album that was released in 2022. So if you're curious go check that out.

Peace.

Shayne Ward is a British actor and musician active since 2005 when he auditioned for and won the X Factor. Afterwards he released his debut album in 2006, then had to have surgery for vocal chord nodules (which was successful) before touring in 2007. He released another album in 2007, followed by more touring in 2008 then spent 1009 working on his third album to be released in 2010. In 2011 he joined the cast of Rock of Ages performing in the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. Year 8, Day 350

Hey guys. Today's song is Run With Me by Calum Scott.

Calum Scott is an English musician active since 2013. His career started with a win on a talent competition for a regional newspaper. Afterwards he joined a Maroon 5 tribute band and toured around the UK. By 2014 he formed a new duo along with John McIntyre called The Experiment, releasing their debut single the same year before the group broke up. In 2015 both he and his sister auditioned for Britain's Got Talent. His sister went first and was fully rejected by the judges, but Calum received not only a standing ovation, but a golden buzzer from Simon Cowell. He came in sixth overall. After the show he released his cover of his audition song independently in 2016 and it slowly rose to fame. He then signed with a label and did a number of TV spots, then teamed up with Brazilian artist Ivete Sangalo for a single that became the official song for the Summer Paralympics in 2016. He released another single in 2017, followed by his debut album in 2018. In 2020 he did a musical documentary following the making of his next album. Year 8, Day 347

Hey guys. Today's song is A Letter To Everyone Who's Hurt Me by Chandler Leighton.

There is no official bio, so I'm working on the assumption that I have the right person and this is true, but I may be wrong so give me some leeway. So Chandler Leighton is an American artist that has been active since at least 2013, posting videos on YouTube of her singing and playing guitar. Then in 2015 she auditioned for American Idol and got a yes from all the judges, but I don't think that ended up leading to anything. She started releasing official videos for her songs in 2021, and has since been signed, so that could also be marked as a beginning for her, and I hope I see more from her because this song is... too real. And great. Give it a listen.

Peace.
